I need ideas on what to use for the "floor" of the pole barn/ shelter I am going to build or buy, I am thinking it will be 20x20 or close to that..It will just have a roof, no sides. My intended use will be to park our RV under it when we are there. I need something easy to walk on, yet not permanent.
The location is south Tx in an area that has had a bull dozer in to clear the brush. The reason I do not want to do concrete or something permanent is that we have 2 sections of land, one day 1 will be mine and the other my brothers. Our families use this section for camping, hunting etc and the other section we lease out currently.
I am thinking some type of drought resistant grass or pea gravel or crushed concrete. I do not have running water, I bring that in via a 350 gallon tank. Do have electricity. We are on average there once a month, more in the cooler months.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Recycled concrete or Asphalt would be a good choice, they both pack down very well.

If there are no sides be sure to order enough material to extend out beyond the roof's drip line if you do not intend to run gutters...to prevent mud splashing inside etc...

Very good point, did not think about that.

Kennyd, have you ever used the crushed concrete? there is a business next to my work that does this, we trade favors now and then...so I am pretty sure I can get a good price. Not sure of what grade to get.

Concrete no, but I have used asphalt for the driveway to my pole barn. We have one of those concrete recyclers about 40 miles away-looks like great stuff, but the asphalt milling matched my driveway (paved) much better and was cheaper.

I would use limestone. Around here we call it 304's, but It is also commonly refered to as crusher run, or 3/4 minus.

It is limestone with a high dust content, so it packs really well and will give you a smooth and solid surface to walk on as well as to park on.

I would not use pea gravel. It is about like trying to walk and park on sand. It washes out from under your tires and feet. I don't like it but that is just my opinion.

I talked to the concrete recycle bus. next to my work today. I have some holes to fill at work in a caliche pad. Anyways I will put a few tons down @ 11.00 a ton and see how it works this weekend. He tells me to water it in good, and will dry very hard.
