Can anyone comment on replacement LED bulbs for D cell maglite flashlights? Remember when the Krypton bulb was KING?

I put an led in a AA sized mini mag light. It sucks, but maybe better than the original bulb.

Use my work phone just about daily for the flashlight feature... even if just for a few seconds...

There is a combo lock I have to open in the dark each morning that is shared with Stericycle... the phone light is great... just a shake turns on and shake off...

I have a few, probably from cosco as well. 2X AA cell maglites. Used to give them to my customers. The grain of rice bulb and optics were nothing to brag about. But better than most other flashlights at the time.

Still have my 30 year old Makita 9 volt that has crawled through a lot of basements...

Both of my Costco twin packs died... The button in the base took a dump... otherwise I like the light.

Grandpa's old 6v sportsman is still alive... must be 70 years old with sealed beam...

I had those 9v devices back then. I would have never left without Home Depot giving a “lifetime” warranty on their lines. Mikita had a better product but my Dewalt was always new based on the return policy.

I buy a cheap headlamp every few years, and have a Maglight with 2 "C" cells which I replace every fall. Also multiple miscellaneous lights scattered throughout my house and trucks, plus that on my phone... I mainly use the headlamp but it's always nice to have a flashlight nearby when it's dark outside.

I use to police in a small town back in the early 80's .Back then, all cops I knew carried a 3-4 D cell flash light. That flash light also doubled ad a ''night stick'' baton . They were very effective.
I haven't bought one since. They were/are round and would never stay where I put them without rolling around

There's always the Imalent 100,000 lumens :DIMALENT MS18 Brightest Flashlight 1, Lumens, with 18pcs Cree XHP7 2nd LEDs, Long Throw Up to 135 Meters Waterproof Powerfull Torch, OLED Display and Built-in Cooling Tools - - Amazon.com

The guy at Ghost Town Living tries it out at the ghost town he bought. Hear the cooling fan kick on.
Testing the World’s Brightest Flashlight in a Ghost Town - YouTube

Disclaimer Many of these manufacturers claim XXXXX lumens but like inverter generators noise output, there seems to be no standard out there.

Wow, nearly 700 bucks!

Before retiring I used Streamlight 90deg lights that I clipped onto my coat or breathing apparatus. I still use this light on occasion.
Most of the time now I like maglite led lights, mostly 3d's. I like that they double as a club.

If I'm outside at night working I'll generally use an led headlamp.

Remember when the sheep were buying those huge million candle power quartz lights? lol

I use my Ridgid LED (Tool Group) light as much as anything. Nice to not have to care about dead batteries, just grab a charged pack. It has a spot and flood arrangement. A bit awkward to carry, but nice for setting down and aiming at your work.

Seems the LED thing is a retrofit kit of sorts. Terrible thing about living in Canada. Might as well life in CUBA. Getting stuff accross the iron curtain and all!

That goes both ways... I had a very difficult time getting snow blower parts for my Canadian LuckNow blower. Also Kubota front fenders... That are apparently only available to Canadian citizens.

Curious. With the recent changes, does that mean I can just zoom across without stopping or identifiying myself? Maybe sign up for some freebies?

re LED bulbs for four D cell flashlights etc - I got a couple of bulbs on Ebay that explicitly declared they could be used for either polarity and for voltage higher than 6 volts. I assumed in a 6 volt spring-terminal-battery lantern, the low current draw would preserve the battery for many many hours. No. Disaster. I smoked both bulbs instantly.

I then found that this type of battery and the corresponding lantern have the center terminal of the battery, and the bulb socket, negative.

Those LED bulbs weren't multi polarity after all. The Ebay seller wouldn't refund and didn't like my negative feedback, and asked me to take it down. I told him no, his ad still said multi polarity so my feedback would remain, to warn the next customer.

Any LED is polarity sensitive. You could put a bridge rectifier in front of it to make it polarity insensitive but suffer a slight voltage drop which is NOT good news for powering an LED.
