I just purchased 155 ac with about 40 ac of (2) fields. I plan on raising bison, and will be growing grasses, hay, and planting a few smaller plots for the native animals (deer, turkey, etc).

I'm pretty convinced to go with the Kubota, and am leaning toward the L4610 HST vs the M series.

Does anyone think the 4610 is overkill ? Would one of the smaller L series be more than plenty ?

I would do various dirt work with the FEL, mow / shred, and disk / plant as mentioned above - again 35-40 acres max.

Nickel,

With that much land I sure would not go smaller. If you plan to bale hay, you should check power requirements for the type of baler you are interested in. Might be that a larger tractor is what you will need in the long run.

Sure wish I had that many acres to work with and I hope you will keep us in touch as you start in the "bison biz". (Just had to say that)/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I have 50 acres and have a Kubota M8950 and I pull a Rhino 15' Flex Wing mower. At the time I thought it would be too big, but I am glad to have it. If I were you, I would look at the M5700 at a minimum -- IMHO.

You may find the attachments you will want in the future require more HP than the L-Series can give you.

nickel: think u would be well advised to follow gatorboys advice. seems like u have a lot of work u want to do, and the m series might be better for u. but i definetlly would not go smaller.

As a Kubota dealer, I have many customers who are doing the same thing as you intend to do. The M series 5700's & 6800's have the horsepower and ground clearance you will need to power your mower conditioner, hay rake, tedder, sprayer, and baler. They also have they weight you need to pull a disk and a planter. They come with the remote hydraulics you will need to operate all of these machines. Both the M5700 & M6800 are available in a hydraulic shuttle so they are very easy to operate. You can even finance the M series for 6 years vs. 5 with the L's. Dollar for dollar you get more machine with the M's vs. the L's and more is definitely what you will be needing. - IMO
