TYM T574 or 5520CH, brand new cab tractors, 55HP, under $40K. I think this is your only choice, everything else will be much more money. TYM makes good tractors with Cummins diesel engines.
I think you have to reread some info on TYM.

They do use the Kukje engine in some models. But use Yanmar and Deutz as well.
I still doubt that the Kukje is an identical clone of the Cummins engine.
Kukje "built engines to Cummin's specifications". That is from the press release when they stroke the deal many years ago.

Massey 1860M, but your friend will have to drop something off his wish list; new, brand, loader, cab, something has to give. Is that 40k the total budget or just the tractor? The fact your asking about 60-90hp, makes me think 8+ft bush hog; even well used, you better have atleast $2500 for that; more like $8k if new. Here is a barely used one (145 hours), cab, loader, power shuttle, only $44k. That's a bit over the budget, but for top tier brand, I don't know you will find a new 60+ hp, with loader, and 4wd, for $40k.

Here is a very Low hour Kioti Rx6620 for $39,000, with cab, loader, 4wd, shuttle. I own a Kioti, and would buy one again, but apples to apples, I would take the MF 1860M over the Rx6620, similar spec, similar hours, but $5k more.

I agree on the MF recommendation.. here is a 1760m.

They have the exhaust-gas recirculation and diesel oxidation catalyst emissions. Which means not regens, no emissions equipment or filters to worry about. Sweet tractors.

Good observation. I know the HP losses of various late-model auto trans's pretty well, but never really looked at the losses of hydro transmission tractors. But a hydro trans is simply a pump and a VS hydraulic motor, whereas auto trans is a complex mess of clutches and spinning gears. So, not a surprise if their losses are very different.

what would be the best 50-90 hp, cab/ac, mfd, loader, shuttle, tractor general maintenance, no heavy fieldwork, mostly blade and bush hog, $30-40,000 never owned a jd, asking for a friend prefer jd or kubota

Well, what does your friend think of these suggestions?

Yes @Willy - if the Jetta has a DSG automatic manual transmission, the gas mileage is 1mpg different. If a true slush box - an option they still offer, then the difference is much higher.

They have changed auto-trannies to have more gears which improve their overall performance but there is still significant mpg loss.

HST trannys on tractors still have significant power loss on most brands. A couple hp...

Fluid drives take energy. Clutch/gear takes less...

The convenience of HST is worth the energy loss IMHO. But, know there is a loss and if the tractor being spec'd is right on the power cusp - one might choose to step up to the next size engine to overcome the HST loss.

I am very happy that I don't have standard tranny on tractor
its so easu tp just move your foot a few inches to go back
or forward. Just two petals no clutch to mess with and no
shifting. The manufactures have made it so easy to operate
a tractor now compared to the olden days.
