Tractor
New Holland Boomer 50
I finally did it. Got my NH tractor stuck yesterday.

Pond is a couple of feet down thanks to this Texas drought. Thought it would be a good time to mow all those high weeds along the normal shoreline. I walked the area first to check for mud and found none. Bone dry almost right down to the water's edge. Except of course for the spot I hit about thirty minutes later.

Was backing down to the water with my Caroni flail and mowing up away from the water, scooting over to the side six feet and doing it again, etc. Was about halfway along the shore, looking good, when I found "the spot." A low area hidden by the tall weeds that I had not stepped in when I walked the area. Down she went.

Twenty minutes later she was out, thanks to the friendliest neighbor on the planet and his larger, heavier, R1 equipped JD. Who then spent the next thirty minutes showing me why his 12' wide rotary cutter is better than my little flail. Says because of how far back it is he can do the same job without getting his tractor tires so close to the water. I didn't say so, but he still would have hit "the spot." And I do admit 12' in one pass is a lot more attractive than 6', but my tractor isn't that big.

After that we popped a couple old stumps by taking overly large and sloppy bites with our loader buckets. Moved a bit of dirt from a higher area over to "the spot." Then I decided to call it a day as it was approaching eleventybillion degrees hot. He called me a wussy. Easy to say from an air conditioned cab! But he is a tougher, older geezer than me. I went to pick up the chain I had left on the ground in the sun, ouch!, and quickly dropped it to get my gloves. But before I had them on he was already winding it up telling me it wasn't that hot. Show off.

So we retired back across the street to his shaded swimming pool with a couple of cold drinks, chips and salsa. First time stuck. Feel like I'm in a special club now. Here's to fun tractorin' and good neighbors.

xtn, glad you got un-stuck. Now get out there and clean that mud off the tractor!! I've been meaning to tell you that I tried your method of leaving the lower hitch points free to swivel and using the fixed hole in the top link. I think the mower does a much nicer job this way and it is much easier to just put the mower down and go. Now I will give you some advice. If it is muddy, don't mow there:D.

Actually, I am finding it very hard to believe that there are any wet spots left in Texas these days!!! You should put a fence around it and sell tickets.

I see you have a mower attached but it looks like you should have been able to unhook it and just drive right out since you are not bottomed out. Is this how you did it or did you have someone pull you out??

No,I was backing in and trying to mow the wet spots as far as I thought it would stand up but I knew when all 4 spun(once you break threw the weeds thats it) and it didnt go anywhere, there wasnt any need to spin it down or take the shredder off we had another tractor close. This section stays wet 365.I pulled him out 5 more times that day, easier for me to pull him out

The first year, I managed to get stuck several times... it was then I realized my Kubota BX was just the right size for me because it was small enough to use a come-along to get unstuck...

Doesn't take much of a wet patch on an incline to loose traction...

Wow. I wondered if you backed in looking at the way your front tires were all slicked up. Having another tractor close by sure makes it easier to mow wet spots.

I have never had the orange tractor stuck (had mud over the front axel once though) but the blue tractor only has 10" of clearnce under the loader frame and I have had it bottomed out in the mud where it had to be pulled out a couple times.

Well I was watching the shredder tires and usually when I started seeing them get wet thats were I stopped the back tires well before I knew it spun alittle in reverse so I put in forward well thats were the picture was taken.Wouldnt move any, the jack on the shredder would have just sank in the mud,it was funny to my father-in-law cause when I left the house my last words to him was"Heck I got 4x4":laughing:Later I find out every tractor that has been down there has been stuck.

I've been in that situation numerous times. First bet is to try walking it out with the loader bucket while very very slowly spinning the tires (so as not to slick them up too much.) If that doesn't work, pick a gear high enough to really spin the tires to get them to clean out, full throttle and dump the clutch. If you have enough power to really spin them you can often either paddle your way out, or dig down to something solid (or really bury it.) Once I've exhausted all those options and am firmly on the axles I go looking for something big to pull me out, lol.

That's great that your friendliest neighbor  got you out is short order. I have only been stuck once, I can tell you it was sure unexpected. Used the backhoe and stabilizers to lift the back of the tractor to get some boards underneath the back wheels. :)

You won't draw the babes until you step out from behind the hand cleaner. Besides, they love the shiny reflections all that wax makes in the sunlight.

Made me think of a question for you guys.

How does one repay such a favor when one has the smaller tractor? I mean I'm on the fence about whether I could have pulled him out if the shoe had been on the other foot.

Tried several times going over to help when I see he's working on something, but what always happens is he quits working, feeds me, and starts talking about when he can come over to help me buck up the big Pecan that fell over a couple months ago or something else that we need to do on my property. He's out favoring me!

Just pay it forward. I bet that's what he'd like to think his helping out does.
