First time stuck...

Made me think of a question for you guys.

How does one repay such a favor when one has the smaller tractor? I mean I'm on the fence about whether I could have pulled him out if the shoe had been on the other foot.

Tried several times going over to help when I see he's working on something, but what always happens is he quits working, feeds me, and starts talking about when he can come over to help me buck up the big Pecan that fell over a couple months ago or something else that we need to do on my property. He's out favoring me!

Just my opinion, but he seems like the kind of person who just helps because it is "the right thing to do", rather than someone who expect something in return. Your appreciation and knowing you will help if ever needed is probably meaningful, but it seems he has his own personal code for living as do many on here.

Short Game makes a good point.

I've been stuck more times than I want to admit, each time it was in mud over the floor boards, and each time I swore I would never go down there again. Had front end loader and backhoe on and still was buried with mud to the seat before I gave up, had to have neighbor pull me out. Thank goodness for his extend a boom backhoe. The water filled tranny with mud and water that ruined the 4 wheel drive seal and had to split my tractor. Anyway I think I'll stay away from the swamp.

We have pulled an International 1086 out several times with a little (30 hp?) kubota. And dont mow those weeds down, I am bringing my cows over, they need whatever can get.

That's great that your friendliest neighbor  got you out is short order. I have only been stuck once, I can tell you it was sure unexpected. Used the backhoe and stabilizers to lift the back of the tractor to get some boards underneath the back wheels. :)

I didn't think it counted as being stuck if you get yourself out!

I think that maybe giving up alittle sooner, would help alot!!!!

I lied when I said I'd never been stuck. You're all shocked, I know. It usually happens when I'm mowing. I often will just put in the clutch and use gravity, staying in a forward gear, when backing the mower down toward the gully to knock down a little more of that cursed canary grass. I ride the brake until I think I'd better not go any farther, and then I just let out the clutch. Sometimes gravity isn't enough to get me moving backwards and I put it in reverse, then I forget I'm in reverse when it's time to climb the bank. I let the clutch out and I'm in there. I've always had short term memory issues. I'm going to mount a winch on the front. It's probably been four years since the last time I did that, so I'm getting better.

Around here, when you stick your chainsaw or tractor and it will take another chainsaw of tractor (truck with winch, or whatever) to get it out, it's called having your chainsaw or tractor "mortgaged." Never happens to me. Oops, I've tried that lie already.

What if you hop in your own truck and winch yourself out? Does that count as stuck?

What about being at the bottom of a BIG hill that you just can't get traction on, still very mobile, just can't get UP to return to the barn, (and winter is coming)

I haven't done either of these myself......;-)
