I don't think that the tire style has anything to do with it. That wet heavy crap that you just described renders pretty much anything useless.

10-4. My Tahoe is great in the snow, and when I ventured out for lunch it felt like I was driving an empty 2WD pickup truck. On the way home that evening, more snow covered the mess and it performed very well.

I've been running R4's since 2002 on two different tractors and have no complaints.

I have turfs and they did great. I have chains and my plan is if I get stuck throw them on.
