Hello All,

This is my first official post; however, this forum has already been able to answer many of my questions just by lurking and searching (including helping me to choose and negotiate the deal on my CK20...wonderful machine!)

At any rate, I'll be doing the 50 hour service this weekend, and I don't see any easy way to remove the oil filter with the structural bracing from the loader still attached (not the loader arms, but a healthy piece of steel bolted right in front of the filter; which leaves no real access for my filter wrench)

Does any one have any tips, insight of helpful swear words?

thank you
-Matt

We use a filter wrench like the red handled one here in the picture. FYI, the first time you take the filter off it will be tight. We find its best to remove it onces the engine is hot. Caution - Oil will be very HOT!

Matt,
I ran into the exact same situation on my Jinma. The FEL bracing did not allow me to get a wrench, and barely my had around the filter. Not sure how your filter is mounted to the engine on the CK20, but, on my Jinma there was a small valve assembly attached to the engine block that held the filter. I removed the assembly, with the filter attached. I was then able to carefully put the assembly in a vice and get the filter off. I had to use a wrench similar to the one Jon DePratt posted to get it off as it was screwed on incredibly tight!

Good luck!

BTW, when I was struggling with my oil filter, I found prayer, instead of swearing really helped /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif but to be honest I was doing a little of both!

It's really a piece of cake with a wrench such as Jon posted. I have no trouble at all. It's tight, yes, but not hard to get off. DO heat up the tractor to operating temp as Jon mentioned, it makes it much easier to get the filter off, and of course, the oil will drain better also.

As I remember, the only hard part is just putting the filter in the only space that's open on the seat side of the filter.

Good luck. Don't forget to oil the gasket on the new filter, hand tighten, and then about a 1/2 turn should do it.

There are times when a hammer and screwdriver work well.

Channel lock wrench.

I have a bigger beef over the oil filters deposit of oil all over everything when you are trying to remove it...though its been this way on almost every car and truck i've ever owned, so i'm not too surprised...

A chain wrench (like this Sears Chain Wrench) makes taking off those VERY tight Kioti filters easy. You don't need Popeye's forearms to grip it like the pliers type filter wrenches, it doesn't puncture the filter can and you don't get burnt with hot oil. But I can still bang my knuckles so I'm not being a total sissy. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My Cummins is the only engine I've owned that you can do a spill-less filter change on. Twin Cam Harley's are the worst.

I bought the suggested "vise grip" type wrench today at wallyworld for a few bucks, and I got the oil filter off with no problems.

thanks to all
