I needed a place to put wrenches for the tractor. I was always going back to the tool box to tighten or loosen the toplink or check chains, etc...
My initial thought was an old army ammo box but, I couldn't find one locally. What I did find was a plastic tool box at Lowes and a piece of bed rail in the dirt near the woods. It seems rugged enough and has room for two 3/8" chains, wrenches and gloves. Now I just need a little dirt and grease to blend it in with the rest of the tractor.

My SECOND project will be the tractor tool box...seeing as how winter is nearing me here.

FIRST project is a well laid out welding cart...and Ive got enough idea from the Hobart BB that I know what I want it to look like.

AMMO BOXES. Try "cheaperthandirt.com".....they sell them all the time. I usually pick up .50 cal boxes 4-5 at a time when I see them for sale at gun shows..etc. They "dont go bad" ya know...*S*

Nice job there shvl73. I need to make someting like that for me NH TC35. It didn't come with a tool box either.

Does it interfere with your getting on and off the tractor, or do you exit the other side? Looks like you could put a step coming off the bottom (loop welded to the bottom of the framework) to assist entry/exit from this side. Your loader controls may prevent this, but picture wasn't from far enough away to tell. Looks good.

That is a great spot since you can't use that side anyway...safely.
Oh and good job on the fabrication:)

Good looking work there. For that type of project bed railing is perfect. Someone gave me about 20 old bed rails once and I was in hog heaven. I made all sorts of things. One word of caution though. Bed rails are typically soft steel. I actually had one tear close to the weld. The weld held up but the bed rail actualy tore.

Thanks all. This is the second bed rail project, first for the new welder. The first was a chain guard for my Woods cutter. The new Lincoln mig is really fun to work with. Now I've got to find more bed rails, great for certain applications and you can't beat the price. The only $ I have in this is $14 for the tool box and $1 for a couple of bolts. I tried to find an ammo box, one I could actually walk in and buy, but nothing local. The plastic box I have will be better, it'll never rust and I can lift it out. There wasn't a step on that side and with the hydro pedals it wouldn't be a good idea anyway.

I have plenty of both.

But, I think your project looks too good for my grease and dirt -- especially on a clean Mahindra.

Good project.
