Thanks very much to all. Starting on the next one to give to my dad. Pic is of steel with outline and one with roughed out profile. Next is drilling the handle pins and lanyard holes, grind the edge and then start heat treating.

I've picked up several large whitetail antler sheds over the years. I've always wanted to make them into knives but never have. A knife forge for $50 may just change my mind.

*adds make knife to list of stuff to do*

Wow, nice work. And eve featured on the cover of Field & Stream:D

What steel/alloy are you using for the blade? Do you know how hard you are getting it to when you are all said and done?

If guys in prison are allowed to read TBN then you are now in their wet dreams! Looks great, I always wanted to make a machete with some weight on the tip.

Thought I'd put a couple of pics on a second similar knife. First is a pic of the stock I use, second is after grinding and heat treating and third is after cleaning off the scale and doing some light sanding, but still able to see the effects on the metal after heat treating. Next is the handles.

Nice shape to the knife. What type of steel is it?

The temp is around 1800 degrees or so, not really sure. I use the magnet test. When the metal is about whit hot I touch the blade to a magnet and if there is no attraction then its ready. I quench it in canola oil. The forge is a small fire brick I made. Been trying to post a short vid but can't get it to work. The steel is 1095.
