Congratulations to both Rick and Broker!!

Welcome to the pack and post pictures, particularly of Rubert.

And yes Broker, we've all got the same question you must've come away with.

None of us have any idea what a gal like Amy is doing with a guy like Rick...??? :)

Wishing you many happy, safe and productive hours of seat time.

Sincerely,
Joel

Well I'm pretty **** excited to be honest. I only wish the temp had cracked 5 degrees so I could have played/worked more. Thankfully the weekend is only a day away. I don't have any pictures of my new Kioti uploaded yet but This is a picture of Rupert, my mini log skidder

Great purchase. I've loved my DK40se since the day Rick delivered it. Fabulous machine and tremendous bang (and lift) for the buck.

Ya but it's true:p

Thanks for coming to my rescue Rick!

PS> My box blade worked out perfect, not only great rock harvester, but great grader blade when pushed backwards.

Glad I went with the woods, will last my and the mini-bosses lifetimes.

Hope you have a prosperous 2009!!

Congrats, BrokerMike!! You have a very nice unit in the DK40....but.....do you Got Grapple?? Ever since IslandTractor wore that shirt to the barbeque last summer, it's occupying my thoughts way too much. A grapple would significantly streamline some of my tractor chores, such as log sorting/staging/cutting and trail clearing/maintenance. I sure wish it said, "Got Flail" because I really NEED one of those to mow ~14 acres of unused pasture, because I recently sold my Jinma with the rotary cutter. What are your intended primary uses of the tractor? What implements/attachments did you get? Do tell!

BTW - Rupert the Mini Log Skidder looks like he has some serious low-end grunt, and a well-positioned center of gravity. I bet he's great on steep slopes.....:D

Oh...and congrats, Rick. Took you a whole day to make the first 2009 sale......were you in on the stimulus package?

What does rupert run on? I bet he works for table scraps.

One handsome (tongue in cheek) skidder.

I think we may have found a TBN maskot or at least a clone of Rick (couldn't help myself). :)

At least with Rupert around there is one TBNer I'm taller than.

I'm thinking Rupert has got to make a showing at next year's cookout.

Rupert, Rick and myself all have the same build!

I'm getting ready to order my grapple this week. I determined this weekend after hauling brush that I can't "live without one"

Is the Markham 48" the best grapple for the DK40?

I use a 48" Millonzi on my DK40se and it does a great job. The Markham is very similar in design and construction though a bit heavier so that is the one I'd buy today since Millonzi went belly up.

If it were me I'd get them to build the top grapple about 1/2 the width of the grapple (ie 24 inches) any wider and I'd be concerned about twisting the upper grapple with an asymmetric load). That is wider than my Millonzi (about 18 inches I recall). I'd also have them put in extra spacer tines so the gap between bottom tines is about 5 inches to keep smaller stuff from falling out. My Millonzi has and inter tine distance of about 9 inches. I wish Markham used the same "rocker" bottom that Millonzi did as it allows you to use the weight of the tractor combined with curl to leverage roots out. I haven't used a straight bottom grapple so I don't really know for sure the rocker is better.

I recall people posting the that Markham weighs about 400lbs. The Millonzi is advertized as weighing 280lbs but I'm a little doubtful it is that light after looking at the Markham in comparison and after trying to muscle my grapple around. I suspect they are pretty close in weight so the Markham would be just perfect for a DK40se/KL401.

How are you going to control the grapple? The rear remote system works fine for grapples though the controller for the DK40se is just a tad lower than I'd like. I have a diverter valve but I'd probably do either the rear remote with a 3 inch extension on the lever or go whole hog and get an electrohydraulic switch next time.

I've got the 48" version of this:

OBG

paired with the electronic valve to control it:

Valve Kits

and I've been very happy.

I have not tried to pry out any stumps but I've got a bruiser of a pine stump that is working it's way up my to do list list...

I also find a thumb super useful for picking stuff up with the backhoe, particularly picking up and placing rocks. After looking at Island's grapple in action, there does not appear to be a whole lot you can't do with the grapple, man that is a big rock to grab a hold of in that manner.

Great pictures.

man that is a big rock to grab a hold of in that manner.

That was the biggest I've lifted. I actually pulled it right out of the ground directly even though only the tip was showing, no BH digging at all because I thought it was just a "small" rock. I had to rock it back and forth a bit and it was springtime so the soil was moist but it eventually just popped out. I'm not sure how much bigger I could have lifted but that was the limit I could travel with even for a short distance without lifting the rear tires even with the BH in place.
