Hmmmm, Soundguy, did your wife have caller ID blocked?

As of November 2011, MagicJack blocks all anonymous caller ID by default, and has stated that this cannot be changed. Incoming calls must unblock caller ID or they are played a MagicTalk advertisement message, then informed that the call cannot be connected. There is no explanation given in the outgoing message, just a recommendation to contact the caller's own customer support.
Globalstar doesn't deliver CID. Most phone systems let you punch in a number to bypass 'no CID reject". MagicJack doesn't so you can't call MagicJack lines from Globalstar

As a newby to this concept, who would I go see to set it up in my home? Would I get to keep my number I have now? Is it a good trade-off for getting rid of the landline?

You need broadband internet. I couldn't keep my number but that was years ago.
The cool thing about ditching your old number is it stops the telemarketers for awhile. The audio quality is like a land line from my experience.
Calls used to be limited to 2 hours and it cuts you off. Now it's down to 1.5 hours. You can't redial right away but after maybe 5 minutes it lets you redail
that number. there is a running clock in the pop-up MJ window that shows how long you've been on the phone. Sometimes you get glitches during calls.

i read the lengthy wiki article. almost thought i had it figured out with the priority call list.. but that sends you to voicemail... and we were geting a magic jack add .. as if the call was from a blocked phone. I know for a fact that neither my wifes cell nor the school's phone have blocked CID. so I'm guessing it is another undocumented feature most of us call 'bugs!'
