Rather than fire extinguisher, how about the air compressor pressurized brake cleaner can from HF? I wouod think 32 oz of diesel should be plenty

This is why they are called tragic accidents that might have been avoided if only....
The can spends its life outside where my wood processing area is probably 500 ft from the house with no pressure and rarely any fuel left in it when it's not in use. It's not even within eyesight of the house. The "if only" has been taken care of.

I guess I am just not in a hurry. I don't use any accelerants, I just use one of those Firestarters that look like a huge match. I start a small fire and slowly build it. After maybe 15 to 20 minutes of careful feeding I can start throwing stuff on in earnest. In my case I don't have a premade brush pile. I am cleaning up areas and feeding the fire as I clean.

Old sometimes stale Gasoline and expired marine flares shot from a flare gun at a safe distance. If your a bad shot don't listen to me.

I have a propane tank weed torch, but hauling it around 20 acres is a pain in the a..
But then, usually, dont you have a loader tractor present when you start and monitor the early stages of the fire?

This. If circumstances allow, it always works better to throw stuff on a fire than to try to get a pile to burn.

I also like those fire starters that look like a giant match to start fires in my fire place. Outside I use one of these.

Isn't DodgeMan's picture above just that above fire extinguisher with diesel in it? Just mounted on the guy's back. Jon

I used to use newspapers to help start small fires but the newspaper got too expensive so I canceled my subscription. I'll have to find something else. That paper was leaning so far left, I didn't believe most of what was printed.

I think better “tinder” and small twig prep is what is needed. Not a hotter better lighter.

Make some with a flint/steel/char cloth and you’ll figure it out.
