Great, I don't even have the tractor yet and am already thinking I need the skid plate, some lighting, and at least the tooth bar (especially after looking at videos online on how much more bite the FEL has with one of those on). I'd also love to get that mechanical thumb for the BH and a 3PH log splitter that I can run off the tractor's hydraulics. I've got around $1-2K left for all of this. Here's to hoping I can find room for all that in the budget. Thanks for the advice. It is nice to not have to buy something and wonder if it will be a good purchase since there are so many others that have the experience to share with me.
Well I have to say the Piranha Tooth Bar is awesome and well worth it if you plan to do much digging. Night and day difference. The thumb is nice and I have used it a few times and it works well but you do have to get off and adjust it for the round or rock or whatever. I am holding out for a hydraulic thumb. Here is a pic of my digging with the PTB.

good purchase - this BX23 is in slightly "used" condition... only 2400 hrs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExHGQPcdSV0

oh the inspiration, this youtube video is too funny not to share - mostly original parts :D enjoy

(your BX25D will be much nicer)

I don't think it could be rougher....wow...rode hard and put away wet.

If it was me I would look for a splitter that ran off the tractors power....one more engine is one more engine you have to take care of. That splitter pictured in the thread looked like a nice setup....very KISS and looks like it just flat works perfect.

By the way...you do know you have to post photos when it gets here....that is a rule...otherwise you have to buy us all a beer....I don't drink so I would rather see the photos.

Wow, that tractor in the video looks completely beat up. I'd love to have seen some of that damage happening. How many nuts/bolts can you replace on one tractor? Wonder if they broke, or got lost.

As for mine, pics will come for sure. I'm waiting by my phone all week waiting for the dealer to call and schedule the delivery. I also don't drink, so I'll make sure to post the pictures.

Dang it. I just got the call from my dealer and he said the tractor won't be ready for delivery until Monday morning. I was hoping to use it this weekend. Nothing pressing, just excited to have it. I'll probably have an update on Monday with pics.

Point to ponder. Since you will have a BH for digging the toothbar for digging shouldn't be a priority. The BX25 has a better skid plate from the factory than the other model BXs and I've never bought a skid plate but I don't do a lot of work in the woods. Also the fan can (has been for some) still be killed with the skid plate.
Get the tractor before you start adding parts except for jobs that you for sure know your going to do.
The RatchetRake will clear briars and small seedlings but excels in leveling out the dirt for reseeding which the toothbars doesn't do very well. My RatchetRake is one of my most essential tools since I mostly do home landscaping. Had a toothbar before and it was of little to no value to me with the jobs (home hillside landscaping) that I do.
Get stuff YOU need and will use, not stuff others have bought (yes, even me) that was the greatest thing since sliced bread for THEM and THEIR projects. I've bought several Kubotas (17) and many, many implements as my desires, needs and wants have changed over the years. Have sold most of my bought implements but my needs have changed as I've tackled many projects and finished many of them.

Very good advice. I actually have both tooth bars and love them both. I am rebuilding a back stop (if it ever stops raining) and doing that with just the backhoe would take forever...the PTB is a dream come true...for me and this one job.

Everyone's needs are different....even the same kind of job is different from person to person. We could all have the same machine with a pile of "toys" to do a given task with and I bet there would be as many different ways as there are people to do the same job.

Get the machine and play with it a little...it might take a day...it might take a week, then go back and review the videos of the different attachments. Go from there. As far as the armor goes you will know after using the machine if it is worth it to you. Keep your eyes open and you will see this or that try to sneak under the machine....if that happens enough to bother YOU then think about armor.

Thanks for the advice all. I'm not usually the type to just get what everyone else has just to have it, but I also see value in things that have proven useful to lots of other people too. I'm going to wait until I actually have the tractor to see how I like using it as is first. Then I'll likely order a few things to make it optimal for my intended usage. Again, thanks for the words of wisdom. It's nice to not have to figure everything out on your own.

Congrats on a great little powerhouse from another new BX25D owner...I'm building a garage and the slab contractor was at my place today to set the forms...I tore down a shed and leveled the area for the slab with my BX and it was really a pleasure to use...today when the slab guy was having trouble digging a footing with his hand shovel, he asked if I could help him out with the Kubota...I drove over to the side he was digging and with several scoops with the FEL his trenches for the footing were done.
He was smiling as he directed me from in front of the loader giving me signals when to dig, scoop and lift the spoils outside the trench...what fun! He was quite, impressed with the little tractor's power...you're going to love it!

Wise decision

I added another 1 car garage on the uphill side of my 2 story 2 car garage. I prepared the drive way up to the new level and prepared the site for the concrete man to pour for the garage and drive up to it. He told me Steve Barlow had tried to sell him a B21 with 1400 hours for an amount that I can't remember. He saw the work my BX25 had done and I did some more final prep work for him with the BX25 and he just stared and smiled watching it work. Probably let him use it some also. He returned the next day and told me he had gone to Barlows and bought the B21 because of seeing how capable the small Kubotas are.
Barlows has added several acres to their lot and added on to their building over the past few weeks. I stopped by to get some washers for my F3080 mowing deck and John (the concrete man from 2 years ago) was there doing the concrete work. Said he still had his Kubota and seemed satisfied.

Are they calling it the John Thomas wing? LOL! Sorry, couldn't resist.

I bought 4 cupped washers to hold the blades on my F3080 mowing deck for $27.50 so....yes, I'm doing my share to pay for the new display, dining and office space.:(
I did ask if I had paid for the addition when I first saw it. :D
I to think they should name it after me.:cool2:

Well, just came inside after taking delivery of the new machine. I couldn't help but get on it and try out the backhoe by digging a couple of small stumps and then using the grapple to pull them out and dispose of them. Took about 10 minutes total and that's with me still learning to use the controls. I would have spent an hour or two doing that with my pickaxe and wheelbarrow.

My wife won't be happy when she gets home and there's no place to park her minivan! I guess I'll have to build another garage. Good thing I have a tractor now!

Hah! That won't last long...the Kubota is built to stay outside so no worries there! You gotta keep the OL happy!

To heck with that, the tractor will outlast the minivan by miles. Personally would figure a way to keep that machine inside. Nothing is harder on a machine than sitting outside. And if you ever go to sell it having it pretty will add greatly to the resale.

Congrats on receiving your tractor. Just be sure and service it properly and it will last a long time.

I would like to keep it under cover and protected from the weather if possible. I'm looking at building a shed or garage in the near future, but for now one of the cars has to get parked outside.

I tried a bit more stump digging with the backhoe and if I didn't know where I lived before I could tell you based on that experience. I'm pretty sure we're built on a huge slab of granite. Not sure how those tree roots secure the tree, but I'm hitting rock about 12-18 inches down all over the place. The backhoe can't break the big roots so I'm thinking I'm going to have to use an axe or something on those to enable the backhoe to dig around it more and finally break it out.

Any stump digging experience would be appreciated. These are mostly oak about 12-16 inches in diameter.

For stump work you can't beat a ripper tooth... A ripper tooth concentrates all your backhoe's curling power onto a sharpened edge rather than using your bucket. Makes short work of those nasty roots. Bro-Tek out of Canada sells a nice one. I will be buying one soon as I have to do some conduit trenching. BroTek also sells a trenching attachment that fits over the ripper tooth. Not sure if any other companies manufacture a ripper tooth for the BX...?
