Final Question

Power trac will not put in a glow plug in their 45 hp air cooled Deutz diesel engine.

The tractor could be stored in a barn with no electricity during the winter months.

I am thinking of not buying the 1845 or any diesel engine that can not be helped with a glow plug or similar.

Should I just buy a Kubota TLB or give the Deutz a chance?

I'll bet the Deutz against any Kubota, with no glow plug on the Deutz and with glow plug on the Kubota. I had no trouble getting the Deutz going down to 10 above on my 1845. On my two little Kubotas, you'd run the battery dead before they'd fire, using two to three minutes of glow plug at a time, then cranking, even with a booster.
For Wisconsin winters, I'd consider some kind of block and/or hydraulic reservoir heater, and perhaps synthetic hydraulic oil, but most times, you won't need anything. I don't remember a cold weather starting complaint from anyone on the board who has a Deutz. Anyone disagree?

My 1845 will start with 30 seconds to a minute of cranking at zero degrees. Haven't tried any lower than zero yet.
