Fergie's in ICU

I've seen a few of these over the years. They were all nasty.

Friend of mine bought an XK-150 Jaguar, it developed a slight rod knock so his "fix" was to turn the radio up louder. Rod came out the side of the block.

Saw a Plymouth slant six that the owner ran without oil - kablooie - swapped the engine, I still have that conrod someplace, looks like a pretzel.

10HP generator - after the big bang, you could look through the block from one side out the other. About the only thing still good was the valve cover.

I think they ought to be putting in a new engine under warranty. That will be less expensive to them and more reliable for you than trying to salvage whatever is still good in the blown engine. They'll spend weeks cleaning all the shrapnel out and there's no guarantee they'll get it all.

Squeeze them to make sure they extend your warranty to cover the new engine!

Best Regards,
Mike/Florida

Picked up a slant 6 with a broken rod and frozen motor.

The state had a program where they retired older cars and paid $500

The catch is the car had to be currently registered, start and move forward and back.

I took my torch and burned through the rod…

Started the car and drove it into the yard and it passed the start, forward and back.

Got my check in the mail.

My point was they seem to be the same engine, adjusted differently ... From the sales brochure ...

But looking at the owners manual, it seems to have a slightly different number ...

But in the service manual under the engine category, it makes no distinction about them being different ... ?
I agree, it's the same basic engine. There may be some tuning differences in the injector pump to "detune it".

BTW, the trannies have slightly different gearing. I assume that is to let the engine run a tad faster at the PTO speed(s).

Curious what engine RPM you need to run to get PTO 540 RPM?

I'm just a tad under 2900, which is past your redline ...

The rear PTO (540 rpm) is at 2532 rpm on mine versus 2829 on yours.

The mid PTO (2000 rpm although the service manual [page 1-29] incorrectly says 540 for this too) is at 2476 rpm on mine versus 2947 on yours.

I have never used either PTO.

quote from I do cars presenter: "...after market inspection port"... when refering to holes in the block.
I to have had a big end break off and exit. Big end bolts failed. Picked up a piece of the block and rammed it between the piston and cylinder and stopped in 3/4 of a revolution.

Any more info from the dealer who's tearing the engine down? They actually might not spend any time tearing it down, and just replace the whole thing to save labor costs. Then ship the blow engine back to the factory for inspection and anaysis.

I sure wouldn't, if it was my dealership. Beside simple curiosity about the failure mode, there is no incentive to spend time paying your technician to disassemble it. Nothing reusable inside that deceased motor. But Massey might not even allow the dealer to tear it down.
