I am considering a FEL mounted plow. Have one nearby for sale. I am not sure if it is to big for my BX23. I am thinking it is but could use a little more experienced knowledge on the matter. Don't want to make a purchase for something that will not work out. The plow in question is Curtis 6'6'' wide. I have attaché some pictures showing the plow and mounting brackets. I would have to get a different bracket made up to attach to my loader I believe. This plow seems to attach with 4 pins as on my loader I attach my loader with just the one larger pin for each loader arm and the cylinder. My concern is that its to big of an attachment for the tractor.

At this time I just use my loader bucket and rear scraper blade which does do the job pretty well in my location.

I used a 6'6'' Meyers Poly plow on the loader of my B2400 a couple years ago. It worked fine pushing snow, but could really feel the weight of the plow. The 350-400lbs sticking way out front belt my homemade plow bracket that attached to the front of the loader.

Now Im using a 6' Moose UTV plow blade, maybe 150lbs, seems to be a better fit for my B2400, plus easier on my back in the off-season.

Plow set at 45 degrees should clear snow so rear tire.

If plow to wide or to heavy you can always have plow trim.

Try keep plow close or you need more rear ballast.

I have a 6ft Curtis on a B3030. Biggest challenge is with the plow angled if the snow is heavy it will push the tractor sideways. You can make two passes an keep the plow lifted off the grade on the first pass. Keeps the weight on the front of the tractor an makes side force lower. On the whole given the tractor weight of the B3030 a 6 ft plow worked ok. I can only offer this for comparison. Check the weight of the tractor when considering the 6 ft 6 plow.

I was thinking about making the move to a blade, but honestly, after spending some time out there moving snow around with the bucket, found once I got the hang of it I can move a LOT of snow fairly quickly?

Depends on how much snow you're regularly dealing with and how far you need to move it too though I suppose?

I have a 7 foot Western on my B2400. This year, I added front chains to prevent the front slipping during turns. Works great. A plow is a lot faster than a bucket. No comparison.

that's probably getting to the limit on size. 5' and 6' seem to be common plows for these SCUTs.

i run a 5' ATV plow on my BX25 and i wouldn't want anything larger. granted, mine mounts to the bucket (rather than the arms) and therefore makes my ballasted (usually box grader) machine really long and cumbersome to maneuver. if the plow was wider it would just make my situation worse. i plow some pretty tight quarters and sometimes have to relocate the snow, so for me the ability to quickly detach the plow and use the loader is necessary, even at the cost of having a long machine with the plow mounted.

in my experience i can move WAY more snow with my plow than with the loader when i'm just making passes and don't need to relocate the stuff.

Points all well taken. I like the idea of mounting it to the loader. My biggest concern was the weight of the loader in the picture. I was thinking if I could pick it up for a decent price and then have a bracket made to attach it to my loader. Maybe Curtis makes a bracket for the BX. The plow pictured was used on a Kubota.

Just for grins, you might want to look at BXPANDED and their FEL mount blade, According to their website it takes but 15 seconds to drop the plow and switch back to the bucket. I have a 2320 with both a front mounted plow and blower. To switch from one to the other takes but a minute or two. Two hydro fittings and a quick snap pin. In order to use my bucket I have to drop the sub-frame and mount the FEL. All in all, that takes a couple of minutes which is no problem. Good luck on the project!

I think I ended up spending about $800 (give or take) for it. I bought the plow for $300. Sanded and painted it. Added a new plow edge, one new hydraulic cylinder, a cushion valve, shoes, and misc hydraulic hoses and connectors. Lastly I fabricated a mount to mount it to the FEL arms. Around here, it's pretty rare to see a used truck plow for less than $1000. So I think I did o.k.

GREAT JOB! Looking at your picture it looks like something you bought ready to go. I have thought about doing something similar but I don't own a welder to build suck a bracket. I have been thinking about getting one at times but like a few other thing it would probably not get used a lot. For a Grand you did good.

I opted for the BXPanded Plow that hooks onto the FEL Bucket. I like the versatility of being able to shed the plow relatively quickly and having the FEL Bucket to move larger piles as needed. This is my 2nd season with it. This year i also added the rear PTO B2789 Blower to the arsenal. The BXPanded FEL mounted plow works well overall. sometimes the plow likes to walk around on the bucket, tough to get the chains perfectly tight. nonetheless, i can plow through my 600' gravel driveway quite well with this setup.
