You are going to be inundated with replies on this topic because it is so universal and so common to many of us. I will throw in my solution/comments here:
1) It depends so much on your circumstance/environment as well as how much fuel you use per year.
2) Many are saying "transfer pump" and I think that is your best solution hastening to say there are MANY ways to do that. I use a 12v transfer pump (readily available via Amazon) which allows you to pump from a larger tank or even from a 5 gal can if you want. That can get tedious and awkward at times with multiple hoses and electric cords, etc. Not enough hands. My adaptation is to use a 35 gal pesticide tank ($99 at TSC) which I converted to diesel fuel using neoprene gaskets to replace the water gaskets. My 35 gal tank has an outlet that I can use gravity feed if desired but mostly use the pump. Gravity is slower than slow.
3) The 35 gal tank is just right for my once a month farming. I added handles to the top of it and it is easily transported in the back of the old farm station wagon OR in the pickup truck. Very light empty and no need to move it when full.
4) I find the 12v pump is very handy because you can run it off any nearby battery AND you can run it off of a battery charger where 120v is more readily accessible using clip leads. I forget the specs but it moves fuel very fast.

Years ago bought a 100 gallon "L" shaped tank. The one that goes in a truck bed with the crossbed tool box over it.

Converted it to portable. 2, 4x4 skids on bottom. Use forks to place on a trailer. Go to town and fill. Bring it back home and place it under shed. Has a 12 volt pump that I clip to tractor battery.

55 gallon drums on a wheeled dolly from harbor freight. 12volt fuel pump from tractor supply 20 years ago. I tried a few hand pumps, forget it. I have 2 barrels that a fuel truck will come fill with off road, or if I only need to fill 1 of them, I load it in the back of the truck and take it in.

I have a Kubota L6060. There are a lot of reasons why I bought it, but one reason is because it is easy to fuel up with 5 gal jugs. The filler tube is about 1 foot higher than the floor of the cab. I put a plastic milk crate on the floor next to the filler tube, put a 5 gal jug on top, tilt it over, the spout drops right into the filler tube. After I put in 15 gal or so, I go to the bank and take a loan out on my house to refill the jugs with diesel.

And I just stopped filling the can all the way up, but looks like I’ll be using one of y’all’s ideas!

My day is soon approaching. I can still lift a full "5" but can only hold it there for so long. I'm thinking some form of tipping cradle that can be lifted by a rope hoist. OR some form of foot pump hydraulic lifting/tipping cradle.
Yeah, those 5G cans seem to get heavier every year! What I still do is hoist it up onto the hood, then tilt it into a funnel for the first 2-3 gallons, then lift it up & pour for the rest. I replaced the stupid safety spout with a plain one so no need to keep pressure on it for flow.
