You need to follow what those guys on the Farmall site are telling you. Those guys know what they are talking about. Like they asked, what is wrong with your head? No way you should need to replace that head. Those guys also know where you can get surplus parts if you will ask.

Thanks to everyone for helping me!!!
The only shop in Alpena, NAPA, had a 2 month back log the last time I checked with them.
Of course there are shops in the Detroit area however, that's 5 hours away.
I have done 3 "head jobs" ( V-eight automotive engines) and found that a replacement, new/used was so much faster and in most cases cheaper. Thus, the "replacement" approach.

Obviously, I want to make sure I get the correct part so that's my interest in the casting number, thinking that was needed to get the right part. I can't find a casting number on my engine but apparently if I us the engine size that will work.
I have been working with the folks at the Farmall site as well as searching the web for a used/new head. New/rebuilt runs upwards of $500 so I believe used is a viable option understanding the risks.

Again, thanks to everyone for your help.

If you don't have any luck close to home, feel free to contact me. I am a retired master mechanic and machinist, but still have a shop here at the house. First clean and check for cracks and surface warp. It's quite possible that head would only need the valves refaced and lapped in, along with knurling the guides and re-cutting the seats. Mic the cylinders and pistons. You might need a set of rings and nothing more serious. Folks used to ship motorcycle and antique tractor heads in from all around the country to me. Let me know if I can help. This winter is going to be cardiac re-hab three days a week until the first of the year, so that leaves a lot of spare time. themotorsickledoc@yahoo.com or text 931-627-5370

I think they do but just not much here as far as Farmall is concerned. What engine does that tractor have? This is the forum I use for Farmall support. FarmallCub.Com

There's not a ton of activity on there but if you post a question you will get a response and there are some really good Farmall guys on there.
Farmall A,B and C all use the same engine. EBay is a good place to look. I have several Of those engines setting around, but Im in West Virginia. I restore a lot of those old tractors.
