You need to follow what those guys on the Farmall site are telling you. Those guys know what they are talking about. Like they asked, what is wrong with your head? No way you should need to replace that head. Those guys also know where you can get surplus parts if you will ask.

Thanks to everyone for helping me!!!
The only shop in Alpena, NAPA, had a 2 month back log the last time I checked with them.
Of course there are shops in the Detroit area however, that's 5 hours away.
I have done 3 "head jobs" ( V-eight automotive engines) and found that a replacement, new/used was so much faster and in most cases cheaper. Thus, the "replacement" approach.

Obviously, I want to make sure I get the correct part so that's my interest in the casting number, thinking that was needed to get the right part. I can't find a casting number on my engine but apparently if I us the engine size that will work.
I have been working with the folks at the Farmall site as well as searching the web for a used/new head. New/rebuilt runs upwards of $500 so I believe used is a viable option understanding the risks.
