We have a mill and lathe at home and my sons are getting pretty good at using them. I can't stress safety enough with them.....just type in "lathe accident" on google images and look at what can happen, WARNING! It is graphic and will make a believer out of you QUICK but this is the reality of what these machines can do. There are more online like this specific to mill accidents.

They look to be more 'commercial grade', so probably not applicable product-wise, but i thought the videos were great.

Can you buy that book or manual? If so where? How much does it cost if you know? It seems like it would be a good addition to anyone's book collection that is interested in stuff like that. Does the manual only pertain to metal working or does it also pertain to other skills like electric, engine repair, wood working, In other words a broader range of topics?
