I love my 2000 7.3, I have done some mods to the motor and trans.it pulls really well. I hope it can be the last truck I own for pulling the equipment to jobs. I will rebuild it when it comes time, right now it has 330,000 on it and it runs great.
John

330,000 sure cant complain about that!

to everyone who is complaining about the 4.30 gears in the Ford, if GM or Dodge offered lower gears form the factory, they would have tested them with them. Fact is Ford offers 4.30s in their 1 ton, the other two don't.

I wonder what most of the Fords roll out the line with? Like has been said by others, the test was stacked and Ford knew it.

Explain why the test was stacked. How exactly was it stacked? Seriously, there was no stacking. Ford picked the vehicle with the highest tow rating from each of the big 3. The HIGHEST TOW RATING IN THE 1 TON CLASS FROM EACH OF THE BIG 3! The best each had to offer. There was no stacking. Simply, in order to get a better tow rating, Ford offers 4.30 gears. The others do not. So, if you want to tow the most, are you going to pick a Ford with only 3.73 simply because the others don't offer it? Or are you, the customer, going to pick what gets you the best.

Seriously, this isn't rocket science. The only ones saying it was stacked are those that are miffed because their brand lost. Get over it. Your brand doesn't offer 4.30 gears. That's not Ford's fault.

I don't think this is the most accurate statement. The ford at least from this test may be the fastest but isn't the ram still rated to tow the most?

We don't know since this is a 2015 F350. The tow ratings haven't been released, but my money is on it beating the Dodge. But, nit-picking aside, let me rephrase my question:

"So, if you want to tow the most the fastest, are you going to pick a Ford with only 3.73 simply because the others don't offer it? Or are you, the customer, going to pick what gets you the best."

So did ford do a complete redesign for 2015? The reason ram obtained those numbers is by a whole new 50,000 psi frame and new suspension. If ford rates their truck over ram without a new frame everyone with the older under rated ford 1 tons should call bs.

No, it's not a complete redesign. Why should the owners of older trucks call BS? Ford is upping the power of the PowerStroke, updating the torque converter, and making other modifications. There are probably a few frame updates as well, but it's not an all-new truck. It doesn't have to have a whole new frame to increase tow ratings...

How long has ford used the same frame and continued to increase the ratings. I have a 2011 250 a 2008 f 350 and a 2011 F450. If the ratings go up for 2015 with the same frame and suspension I call bs because I can't haul that with my older models. Because ford either under rated the old ones or is over rating the new ones. And don't say it's engine or torque converter related because the 450 I have has a v10 in it and if it'll haul that weight in a 450 frame it can haul it in a 350 frame.

Well, Ford started with the frame in '99 (I will use model years and not calendar years). It was updated significantly in '05 (added coil spring front end that year), '08, '11, and I'm presuming, in '15. What you have doesn't make a hill of beans as to the rating for the '15 Super Duty. Why is it so hard to grasp that Ford makes minor frame modifications to get a few hundred (or thousand) extra lbs. in towing capacity. They added a cross member one year to gain a couple thousand extra lbs. of capacity. Maybe they had a safety margin of 20% in '11 and they feel comfortable backing down to a safety margin of 10% for '15? I don't know. The F450 is getting 19.5" wheels back again for '15 as well.

But, if you feel your truck can handle it, by all means, haul it. Just don't expect anyone to feel sorry for you if you tear it up.

Do the doors from a '99 still fit?

Yup.

You know, that's my one real beef with the SD. Update the body already! Outside of the front clip and the tailgate, the body has been the same for nearly 16 years! The frame, on the other hand, has evolved significantly. I can't wait to see what the next gen SD has in store. I'm hearing complete redesign for the '16 model year.

Good comments on here about final drive ratio's...
I can tell you from experience that I like my current 4.10's in my F350...
In overdrive she is pulling 2000 RPM @ 62 MPH...
A comfortable speed with my camper...
My previous 92 F250 with a whopping 185 HP and 3.55 rear end was a towing nightmare...
Never could pull in overdrive and had to keep my foot to the floor all the time...
With my programmer running @ 330 HP towing HP is a non issue...
The newer trucks have more horsepower than my juiced 7.3...
But I can pull my 10000# camper up Black Mountain @ 55 MPH is good enough for me...
That is good enough for me...
Plus she is paid for...

SRW all have 3.73 with diesel. 4.10 and 4.30 are available with gas only.

Dually all come stanard with 4.10 and 4.30 option.

I just went through the build price configured like my current 03...
Comes out to a tad under 60K...
Think I'll keep my old truck...

With rebates and discounts, probably looking at < $50k out the door. But still, that's a lot of coin for a truck! It doesn't help that it's close to $9k just for the diesel! I'm looking for an EcoBoost 5.0 in the '16 F250. Maybe I can buy a new truck in '18...

These are not sports cars ,they keep drag racing them with big trailers....enough already! They all have as much power as the average semi had 20 years ago,the are all more than capable..Ford isn't being honest about getting the best each manufacturer has because the dodge is available with 4.88s and 37500 gcwr. Personally I'm still afraid of all of them since they out DPF on them in 07.....they add so much heat to the engine between the extra fuel burnt in the DPF and the egr adding heat these engines will never last like the older versions...
