Ethanol Free Gas

For those who fill small jugs with ethanol free gas, keep in mind most gas pumps use the same hose to dispense all gasoline blends. The first half gallon or so will likely be the blend the previous customer bought. After selecting the ethanol free blend, it's best to put the first gallon or so in the vehicle tank to flush the hose before filling your jug.

Many gas stations have warning labels to this effect, but not all.
Not my stations, they have separate blue colored hoses. But i agree some dont.

Are you close to Clifford, PA? Paradise Valley plaza on 106 has ethanol free on it's own hose. Also, Lapera's in Royal on 106 has ethanol free. Full serve, so I don't stop there, but they have it.
I'm 30 miles east of Clifford. A bit far to go for gas.

That website isn't always up to date btw. Casey's used to have ethanol free and they stopped selling it. It takes awhile for the website to be updated.
Yeah, it's user updated, so certainly worth verifying before driving far to a station. The phone number for each station is listed though, so it's easy to do.

Easy if the employee you talk to knows anything. Last time I called the clerk didn't know what I was talking about

I go 40 miles to get ethanol free. But I get 25 gallons and that lasts me all summer for mowing and weed wacking. So it’s a once a year trip.

I guess I wasn't clear in my post. There are several stations in my area that sell ethanol free gas, they just don't have pumps with separate hoses. I just purge the hose into my truck before filling the jugs. I would prefer using a separate pump for 0E fuel, but it isn't worth travelling any distance to find one.

If 0E wasn't available here at all, I would probably do what you do by travelling and buying in bulk.

For the filling stations that sell is around here, E0 is called 'REC' gas and is always at a price higher than premium E-gas.

I use canned gas in my saws especially because they can sit for a long time with no use. I run Echo Red Armor 50-1 and since I purchased a Harbor Freight Bauer 20 volt chainsaw, they get used even less.

Was the employee you talked to at a station that's listed on the Pure Gas website?

So, I bought 21 gallons of non ethanol gasoline yesterday. It cost me $4.55/gallon. E15 was only $3.05. That's one hell of a premium. Non was 91 octane vs ethanol at 87 octane. They had separate hoses on every pump. 11 gallons are for small engines, 10 gallons filled the Mazda. I plan to run another tank through the Mazda after this one.

That right there tells me they know it's worth it, you're lucky you can get it. I'm stuck with corn gas, there's none available anywhere in NS. I actually read somewhere where the Canadian goobermint made it illegal to sell it, dunno if there's any truth in it but knowing our laws it probably is.

Yesterday a neighbor & I were talking about ethanol gas and carburetor damage. He showed me he puts one of these in line gas valves in every mower & small engine. Before shutting off you close valve running carburetor dry.

The carb on the Farmall Cub was screwed up and no ethanol free available here…

For decades… never a problem but now cleaning is part of the Spring ritual.

I pretty much hypermile the Mazda on the same 70 mile round trip 3 days per week. The only real variable is wind.
This is the first time I've burned non-ethanol gas in the Mazda and I can already tell there's a difference. With Summer E10 I'm getting about 41 MPG. I'm curious to see what I can get with non-ethanol over the next two tanks.

I have a Honda lawn mower and genset. Both come with shutoff valves from the factory. Owner's manual for both recommends running the carburetor dry, and it also recommends to use non-ethanol gas if possible.

Maybe it is time for a class action lawsuit against governments that ban or make nearly impossible to buy E0 gas. Or send the responsable governmens the repair bills made neccesary due to the heavy-handed policies against E0 gas. I'm really getting fed up by their idiotic control over us.

In my mind one problem with ethanol hype is it burns cleaner. I believe that’s true but raising the crops to make it is mostly done by diesel burning tractors and combines, plus all the pesticides, weed killers and fertilizer applied to the fields. Then the energy and pollution that the ethanol plants create. Are we really ahead with the ethanol fuel.

California paid a lot to Diesel car owners when the reformulated diesel damaged fuel system some years back.

With 2 large refineries giving notice of pending closure and Chevron relocating to Texas the state said it may have to step in to operate refineries… I wonder if the state would fine itself for deficiencies?

I used to think we wern't but then I realized that the carbon in ethanol came from the air recently, like this year or last year. The carbon in gasoline had been safely buried for millions of years. Burning it adds to the total carbon in the air; burning ethanol made from plants just recycles carbon from the air.

The tractors etc use a fraction of the fuel that the corn they harvest supplies. Of course they could be using renewable diesel made from corn oil and also not adding to total atmospheric carbon.
