The cranes used Dayton wheels due to less room allowed by the planetary drive on the drivers. They were a good strong system but a pain in the keister to line up on such a big and heavy tire.

It's all relative. If you have a $200k truck not earning it's keep due to a flat tire, a $500 torque magnifier isn't that expensive. Plus, you buy it once where a service truck has to be paid for each time it is used.

You should make your own. You have the mill/lathe combo and a welder. What else could you possibly need?

Yeah I could make a Cheater wrench torque multiplier if I had one to go by, one way is since most likely they're all made in China anyways, is to buy the cheapest version, then tare it apart and make it stronger, thats what I usually do on most things anyways, but I didn't realize there was that many versions of the same thing... Keep in mind, the torque multipliers you linked only multiple torque, they don't hold the inner nut with the square head from turning like the one in the link I posted. If all you want to do is multiply torque then use a longer cheater pipe. But that won't help if the outer nut has seized on the inner nut.
