Enlarged Prostate?

/ Enlarged Prostate? #41
I haven't been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate or taken any medication for urinary problems. I had started having to get up multiple times during the night, I talked to my doctor about it and he didn't seem overly concerned, my PSA numbers were good, and he didn't think I needed Flomax yet and basically sent me on my way. So after a couple of years of this I had pretty much accepted it, it wasn't getting any worse.

So I end up at my chiropractor with some neck pain (I hadn't been in a couple of years), he adjusts me and the pain was gone. It had been several years since I had had any x-rays done so he takes some pictures and finds some disc degeneration. So we come up with a treatment plan. I start going a couple days a week to get adjusted. He would always ask how my neck pain was and I kept explaining that it had been gone since the first adjustment. Within the first couple weeks the big thing I noticed was I wasn't getting up at night any more. I had never even mentioned to him about my problem, I never considered that any spinal alignment issues might have been related.

Everything was fine the 4 months I was getting adjusted regularly. Now I haven't been in a few months again and I'm back to getting up at least a couple of times a night.

For me my problem is nerve related cause by a subluxation in my spine. I'm by no means saying this could be anybodys problem here, but I never considered it to be my problem either.

Agreed.

This thread though. WOW. Reaming here. Reaming there. Cath this. Cath that. I was getting a bit more paler than usual. :D:D:D

It is good information though I wonder if I would better of being ignorant on HOW some of these problems are fixed.....

I would really like to continue to think that Rotorooting was for house plumbing. Not MY plumbing. :confused2::ashamed:

:D

I just made an appointment to see the urolgist both my daughter and wife recommended. Wife works intensive care and daughter is in recovery, and both think this guy is good. Both seem to think the old style reaming has been improved of late and that this guy will be up to date....we shall see. I do not expect him to find prostate problems, but I do know I have a stricture from previous surgery, and having had it surgically reduced once before, I know how much fun it used to be. I'm hoping there's a new Star Wars treatment using totally painless lasers and such, but at least I have someone who knows how to deal with catheters. Ah, the joy.

I had a "cysto" eleven years ago and it wasn't that bad. Scheduled for one on the 15th so I guess I will find out if they are any better! :)

There has just got to be a better word than "reaming".

Can we agree, thru the rest of this thread, any time you're about to type "reaming", type "tickling" instead.

Sorry guys, I just "tell it like it is"!! Go through it sometime, you'll be believers! ~~ grnspot110

As distasteful as TURP [Tunnel boring] is, there was a time that was not possible and one had to suffer.

Hey, guys, good discussion. One more word of caution: getting up multiple times at night may turn out to be a SLEEP problem. I thought I was having a urinary problem, turned out to be obstructive sleep apnea. Long story short, sleep test showed my breathing was stopping many times a night, never was getting into deep sleep. Now use a CPAP machine, problem solved. Kicker is, I did develop enlarged prostate later on, too.

And you're right, this is just as good a place to discuss what ails yer fellow tractor driver as anyplace else. This is the 20th...er, 21st century, right?

So how did you make out with your appointment? I had my "cysto" on the 15th and although I will say it isn't the most pleasant experiance a guy can have it beats the heck out of finding out too late you have cancer!.

This is something that I can comment on first hand. AS the saying goes "been there, done that". Bear in mind I had my 79th birthday Friday. It is going to get you if you live long enough. I had an elevated PSA for years but steady. I had benign prostate hyperplasia BPH plus prostatitis. Urination frequency treated with Cardura and antibiotics for the prostatitis.

I had 2 biopsies that were clear, finally into the hospital for a saturation biopsy and a TURP ( transurethral resection of the prostate ) "ream it out".

I had late stage cancer so had a course of radiation followed. I am also under hormone treatment which completely suppresses testosterone production.

Incontinence is slowly coming under control while bladder volume has increases and stream size has increased. Recent PSA was 0.1. I have 2 more hormone injections 5 in all over 15 months. The side effects are extreme ED but life is full of trade offs.

I was 3/4s through the radiation treatments when I fell and broke the head off the femur on the left side.

This all happened starting Dec 2 last year and I fell on April 3rd. I am up and getting around with 2 canes, driving where I need to go and doing what I need to do. Got back on my tractor last week and trying to figure out a way to get a cab. I will get a knee replacement for the left knee sometime in the next 4-6 months as my knees are slowing me down more than the hip.

Hey - you do what you need to do ;););)

I haven't read the full thread yet, but guys like you set the bar for the rest of us. (The owner of the company I work for is 97 YO, and down right now with a bad back.) Good luck, hope you're posting for many years to come.

Thanks for asking...My family Dr. listened to my concerns and decided it might be better to see a urologist. I expect a call from them with an appointment date. I will certainly let you all know what I find out from him!

I have a similar condition. My doctor advises that there is a process now that is better than the ream job which involves a microwave probe that essentially cooks the old walnut a bit. I have a friend who had it and he says best thing he ever did. I am considering it more and more as my condition deteriorates.

The first thing is we can't talk about man stuff then we've all got a problem. I'll bet a lot of the wives are like mine and determined to stay on top of stuff that affects the health of her man.

My dad had prostrate cancer some years ago so I have a small worry about it. Awhile back I had some serious pain in the testicles and went to an urologist. What I had was the same thing as vericose veins but in the testicles, comes from strain. Amazing thing about that was as soon as I realized it wasn't something to really worry about the pain went away.

I look at conversations like this as being just like our conversations on tractors, gardens, pets, and Eddie's love life. We all learn from each other and we're all better off for it. (Eddie is a good sport and I wouldn't have said that if we weren't friends)

Harv,

I had the same problem with the vericose veins when I was in my 20's and playing college basketball. Running and lifting weights daily. Went to an urologist that checked everything (prostate) and it turned out to be the veins. Walked funny for a couple days after the prostrate exam :( .

I had a colonoscopy two years ago (age 35) because of blood in my stool. Turned out to be internal hemorrohoids.

You can never be too careful or too "ashamed" to discuss things that affect your health.

I can't comment on Eddie's love life ;) .

Here is something for you younger guys to look forwards to.

Nanobubbles 'can detect and eliminate prostate cancer cells'

Of course it will 15-20 years before it becomes a routine medical procedure.

Just one of the many research lines from my alma mater. Being just across the street from the Texas Medical Center they are now into a lot of biomedical research.

A little off topic but if we are talking pain in your business, here goes. In 2000 I found my left ******** swollen, thought it was cancer but after seeing the doctor and getting a usound it turns out it was a hydrocele. Tyring for kids the doc said to wait becausse there is always a risk of infection, etc. with surgery.

Well scared to get it done my left ******** was nearly softball size by 2009. I had the hydrocele removed April 2009. Holy smokes. They essentially cut your scrotum in half, pull this membrane out and then sew them back together with a drain in it. I had a drain in my ******** for about 5 days and it slowly shrank down to normal size over about 6 months. It is still sensitive. Wow did that hurt. Being self employed I did this on a Friday and was at work Monday. I was in a fog for about 3 weeks, wicked painful, I used my wifes maxi-pads becuase it would bleed constantly.

When they pulled the drain out it was attached to something and I screamed like a girl and swore like a sailor.

Not the same was what a lot of you guys are talking about but I think I get my stripes for that one.

I hate to sound like a school girl myself but...OH. MY. GAWD. Hat's off to you!

As for my little issue, I'll be at the Urologist (or as my kids call it, the "Urine-ologist")tomorrow at 1:15 EST. *Fingers crossed* he doesn't have fingers like Andre the Giant...

AMR,

I had a hydrocele, but got it taken care of when it was only golf ball size. Hardly had any pain; never took any pain meds. Didn't take any for the TURP either, but I should have before they pulled the catheter. As I said in an earlier post, pulling the catheter after the TURP was like pulling out barbed wire.
