I bought a predator engine and used it on the roto tiller for about an hour. Then it set for a while and wouldnt turn over anymore Got some water in the cylinder. I took off the head and got the cylinder cleaned up and it turns over smoothly. I was just wondering if the rings might be stuck. Figured I might as well pull the piston and hone cylinder. Think I will need new rings or reckon I could use the old ones since they are only been used for an hour. Thought I would ask here and get any ideas. Let me know your thoughts

I would try using it with some Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel and see how it does before spending the time and money on a tear down.

I think four bolts and two rod nuts and I am there. I was just concerned if I needed new rings or not.

Welderskelter up front I’ll tell you I don’t know. I’m on my third harbor freight tiller engine. Used the first one year and next spring it was locked up. I seen during the tear down that I couldn’t determine what had it locked. Next engine would run as long as it was perfectly level, but when working if it leaned to one side just a little it quit. So I tore the carb apart and it was so tedious I couldn’t fix it. Now if this one goes south either I find another brand or stop trying to garden. My neighbor has heck with a predator generator. Keep us informed

Hard to tell without seeing it ... But they "should" be alright ...

How long did it sit?

How did water get in it?

After going to all the trouble to tear it down and hone the cylinder I would spend the few bucks it takes to put a new set of rings in

Good luck trying to get parts.....

Put it back together and start it up..... Had a 2 cylinder evinrude outboard motor seized with rusted cylinders.... turned it over by hand and scraped rust from cylinders by revolving crank.... Started it up and ran nasty for about 10 minutes ...Settled down and was good for years....

Mike1955 looks like your problem might be the oil sensor in the bottom of the crankcase must be too sensitive. I think I will cut the wire to mine so it cant shut her down. Briggs and kohler and Tecumseh that I am familiar with never used it, so why start now.

Shawn Apparently the predator engines arent built like the old ones that sit outside permantly and still run.
