That’s true. But you probably wouldn’t do that. I pointed out the pros and cons. That’s all.
Have done it on more than one occasion. Flat tire and no spare? Have run with 5 to get somewhere off the road. Trailer flat have used “extra” truck tire to get somewhere to find a tire. Mud, like sand, air down a little. Snow add ballast. No noticeable problems with either

If I decided that I was OK with the width and ride quality of a dually, I would skip the 3500s and go straight to 4500s. The Ford F-450 is a very popular option. Reason being is you get MUCH better turning radius which takes a lot of the pain out of driving a dually. You also get heavier rated axles and brakes.

I had a 2014 F350 shorted SRW. Pull a 14.5k "5th wheel" (now gooseneck) 35' toy hauler and a 22' bumper pull tilting deck trailer. 4k of trailer & 6k of tractor & implements on it, so usually 10k. 2.5k lbs of pin weight on the gooseneck, 800-1.4k on the Weighsafe bumper pull hitch depending on the load & ballance.I've been hauling both trailers this summer with a rental for reasons. Had a Ford dually for a couple months & a new Chevy dually this month. All diesels. I really can't tell a difference in stability dually vs single. The extra length & width is noticable in parking lots.

I'd assume the extra tires & stability show up with heavier loads. I'm likely to look at a long bed as a next truck for more room for camping junk, but won't be looking at a dually. Just extra cost & maintenance for my use case with no direct benefit.

The only thing I could think of would be loosing a tire on the rear & the extra getting me to a safe spot to change it.

Very different story if you are puling loads near the limit of the dualies, but my loads are always under the rating of the singles.

In case you are wondering, this is what a basically max GVWR load looked like this weekend on my little SRW truck. The whole thing weighed about 23,500 coming out of the scale house. 10K truck and 14K trailer. I absolutely would not want to pull much more than this with a single tire. My best guess for trailer weight is right around 15,000 lbs.

Done that with a F150 for several 40 mile trips before. Well, close. 21000lbs

Yep, I know that feeling. That is why I switched from a 2500HD to a 3500HD DRW. I could have pulled all my trailers with the 2500HD, but I sure feel better with the 3500HD DRW. My wife said get what I needed to feel safe, so I did.

I try to limit my loads based on weight per yard to avoid going overweight. Means only hauling 4 yards of recycled asphalt or rock at 2600# per yard, instead of 6 yards which easily fits. Even 6 yards of topsoil at 2000# per yard dry, which fits fine in the trailer, puts me just over the limit of 11,250# that is the trailer cargo load limit. The new ram lift trailer handles it, no problem. I also switched to G rated tires on the trailer for extra security.

I've had them all, including full size Toyotas. If I had to pick, Ram would be #1 and Ford would be #2. GM wouldn't even make the list, they'd be on injury reserve.
And I am just the opposite, you cannot run fast enough to GIVE me a Ram or a Ford.

I have owned no Rams but the company I worked for had them.
