At least you usually see the item before you get your solution built.

Typical example, I had an 85 ranger that I kept leaving the lights on. So I designed a circuit with a relay and a piezo buzzer that would let me know when the key was off and the lights were on, cost me maybe $10 in parts at radio shack.

A week later I see a gadget in walmart for $2 that did the same thing with just a buzzer and a diode...

Yup.. then there are the things that are available, just not near you.

I wanted a topper for the rops on some of my fords, but could never find one local, and truck shipping would cost more than the topper.

so i went and bought the angle iron, and some metal plating for the side brackets that bolt to the rops. Used 7/16 OSB as the 'pad' under the metal for the roof, with a piece of blue 3/8" max foam insulation board as a vibration pad.

I patterned a topper on one of my other fords using cardboard to trace out the side brackets and match the mount bolt holes drilled in the factory rops.

got the torch, welder and chop saw out and it actually turned out ok.

the metal cost was more than a complete topper .. but not much... labor was free

I just never could find one local.. so I had to pay more to build it then buy it.

Here's a pic during build when I just had rough tacked the brackets to the frame before tacking the roof in.. then a later pic showing my rube goldberg crane to lift it on.. I chained a 3pt boom pole into the loader bucket of my old 1955 ford 660 to get the height i needed to set the topper onto the rops on my 4600. 2" strap made a good 4 point harness for the topper. total redneck production

I just want to know that .How high is your water table at the moment ? I have a bunch of these one with a 115v motor driven pump jack when the wind is low.
