I don't know how many of you folks watch those late night infomercials BUT there's an amazing product out there that might just help repairing Aluminum & cast iron. It's called "alumalloy" and it's some type of brazing rod that repairs aluminum & cast iron using only a propane torch. You can read all about it at www.aluminumrepair.com I have never used the product but if anyone has, I'd like to hear how it works.

That BRAND has been around for a while. Simular products have been on the market for years. They work fairly good. As you might expect, they don't ALWAYS work as good as that info-mercial would lead you to believe.

The keys to success are prep and cleanliness. (and not expecting miracles) Like any sort of welding/brazing, grinding the two mating surfaces is critical. Keeping dirt and dust off those surfaces is just as important. The heat must be right for each different application. It takes more than just "melting the rod". Practice, practice, practice.

Still and all, not a bad way to do an economical aluminum repair.
