Your last comment showed double posting on my browser and would not let me respond to you. I refreshed the screen and the second post was gone. Is that a site issue for anyone else?

He deleted his own duplicate while you were trying to reply to it. That's why I leave my duplicate posts.

OK, back to toast.
After this thread grew awareness of my toaster troubles, we brought the old one up from the basement and it did a wonderful job making toast. Well, it is a toaster. In my excitement that "new" meant "better" a while back, I bought a new toaster that we were never really happy with and forgot about the one in the basement.

Anyway, the one in the basement does a great job gets two thumbs up. I can't find the exact model but Cuisinart makes a bunch that look almost exactly like it. They seem to have the innards the same and just doctor up the appearance to suit different people. Anyway, one that looks almost exactly like mine is this CPT-320 Cuisinart. It's priced at $38.91 on Amazon and the link is below.

Amazon.com: Cuisinart CPT-320 Compact Stainless 2-Slice Toaster, Brushed Stainless: Kitchen & Dining

I think it works well because is so simple. I can look in and see the glowing coals making my good toast quick. It reminds me of the old 1950's toaster with open coils that offered the risk of imminent burns and shock but did a great job. Anyway, that one made good toast and so does this one.

That's my toaster story and I'm sticking with it. :D

Don't let double post get to you that bad. Much more important things in life to worry about. If the site thinks what you have to say if so important that it needs to be said twice let it. Just roll on.

Speaking of Toast and Maple Syrup...... how do I tell its real and from the US, or is the Canada stuff just as good. I have an old 1/4 jug from Vermont in the freezer - been there 10 years or so and crystalized. Is there a safe way to get it flowing again with out running it? Got it for Christmas way back when and when we moved I stuck it in the freezer for the trip (used a portable generator at night to keep the freezer frozen along with dry ice). That was the last time I moved myself.

PS I prefer lightly toasted Sour Dough ...but Doc now says bad for me (Diabetes)... so moderation.

PSS got double posted and still no email notice

I don't think you can tell the difference between northern VT, ME or NH maple syrup compared with syrup from Quebec, PQ. It's the same tree so the same syrup. I've had other trees blended in and had a struggle to know which is which. Syrup is not a standardized thing and all sorts of issues affect taste, and that doesn't mean good or bad. Syrup at the start of the season tastes different from other times. Boiled thick or thin matters and to a degree. Start with the premise that all syrup is good, assuming clean containers, and go from there.

We store our excess syrup in the freezer and wife cannot recall any that went to sugar. Honey, yes, and the cure for that is to place the container in warm water until restored. She thinks try the same with the maple syrup but I think just eat it as sugar. Lots is made and sold that way every year. Pick up a fresh jug (quart) at Sam's Club or Costco for $11 and eat the old stuff alone, on vanilla ice cream, stirred in coffee or just straight up. Maybe taste a small sample first.

Since I'm still not getting email notices, I forgot about this thread, so I looked it up so I could complain about this very same 502 error thing I'm now getting from this forum the past couple days. I thought obamanation was going to fix this major malfunction, guess not probably didn't like the free toast and syrup.... I suppose it could be a particle of pre-animate matter caught in the matrix.

DITTO x2. Duplicates are a bugbear!

I'm a pure & simple man, toast wise, and simply go for peanut butter. I like raspberry jam but the wee seeds get stuck [jammed!] in the dental-work so I rarely git it a go... wellllll... unless I have crumpets and then raspberry is my go-to. [my toaster has a crumpet 'setting']

Then it's dental floss time.

I'd re-check that recommendation. I've got Type II and the dietician recommended sourdough as my go-to bread, as long as it isn't 'white' sourdough... it's the carbohydrates [need to be low] versus the proteins [need to be high in comparison].

Your dearth of sourdough bread may soon be over, Mate!

Crumpets are illegal here, the Governor says that they give people an accent, so I'll settle for toast and real maple syrup and there's no seeds in Me. made syrup, just one slight problemo, I'm all out, might have to settle for the foreign stuff west of here. In the mean time I've been using real Me. honey and sometimes that's not as sweat as it was 38 years ago when I first got married.

Is the Canada stuff just as good?!! My friend, Canadian Quebec maple syrup is the gold standard, and people travel far and wide to get it.

And yet, you live in Liberty, Maine.

If you're going to slip over the border to La Belle Province for some quality maple syrup, why not indulge in a serving of toasted crumpets whilst you're there? Taste the tyranny of your Governor!

Call Sam's Club in Augusta and they should have maple syrup for $11 a quart. It's from Quebec but as discussed earlier I have seen tap lines run from St. Pamphile, Maine that sent the sap over to Quebec province to be boiled down and shipped back as Canadian maple syrup. Tastes 100% the same.

For this Spring find a local farmer that makes syrup and commit to some of his "first run" stuff. It's a light amber, much less maple taste but unique. I prefer it and used to live not far from your area where it is commonly sold. Loads of farmers from Liberty to Troy and Dixmont milk cows, or used to, tap trees for the pin money and will eagerly sell the first run stuff that most people think isn't "mapley" enough. Make a friend and buy from them. I'm thinking $25-$30-$35 a gallon, maybe a little more. Buy from a clean-looking farm.

Note: make sure they use clean containers and/or state certified. I have actually seen cleaned out but very undesirable containers hanging from trees as sap buckets. No thanks.

For sure! And hey, Just saw a flier offering syrup at $5.00 a tin! Must be last year overstock. Must be syrup control board unloading to make room for the new crop.

As to 'gold standard' Quebec out produces Maine and Vermont every time (they won't admit)

GREAT! All this talk about toasted crumpets (OK, mostly me, but still) has given me a hankerin'... so I've done up a few (4). Yes, with jam.

Two hours before Tea [supper].

Well, there goes my 'girlish figure'.

Oh, and still no email notices.

Just for the heck of it, what is for supper in Australia tonight?

My wife made some kind of noodle dish tonight with snap peas, etc.
