Electricity Price Increases

No lights?, no microwave?, computer, modem, router, or cellphone that needs to be charged? Bi vacuum cleaner, etc…?
I have all of that, I only listed the heavy draws. Lights cost virtually nothing to run.

They stopped fiber at the next house up, about 3200 feet away. I haven't asked what it'll cost to bring it the rest of the way.
Same here but they just staked my first pedestal in the yard. So there is hope.. ;)

A goal of mine is eliminating reoccurring expenses…

Never had cable or a cell phone bill… I do have a landline and water, electricity and gas…

My cable tv bill ( before I dropped it), was 180% of my electric bill…. And the cable TV modem required electricity!
I know people who still pay more for cable, or more for a cellphone plan than they do for electricity. That’s nuts.
To me, electricity to my house, is 100x more important than a cellphone plan, or cable tv.

The only things that are truly necessity are:
Air
Water
Food

***/companionship is a distant 4th

Living in this century, I’d say, electricity ranks up there as the
5th highest necessity, followed by public healthcare as #6

After that everything else is convenience, not necessity
Shelter is real nice in the middle of January. I would put that as one of the top 3.

I feel better, I don't have cable, landline, water or gas bill.

The only gas bill I have is when I fill a cylinder to use my propane grill. For the last few years I've used charcoal instead.

🤞I hope that they bring it the rest of the way soon, and inexpensively...

We gave up our landline because our Telco couldn't keep the lines in working order as well.

All the best, Peter

It would take a lot more than lower taxes to get me to move to the desert. Lots of people love it, but it’s not for me.
I've lived my entire life (so far) in northern New England, and desert country is about as different from what we have as you can get, so it's a fascinating place to visit, but no, I don't think I could live there either. I like some green in my environment.

That's me, but I don't think it's nuts. My power bill is for a refrigerator, 2 freezers, water pump and smal hot water heater .
Also occasionally fire up my welder.
My power bill is about 35$/ month.

My cellphone bill is 92$/ month. It's also my only phone and internet access right now, including running my work laptop.
Can you find cell service to do that for less?
Let me guess...you're single? Not many women would put up with that spartan of a lifestyle. Our electric bill is just under double that (typically mid $60s/mo, dunno how it's gonna be now that a rate increase just kicked in), but still low compared to many/most people I know.

Cell bill seems a bit high, I've seen plans for half that or less that, though I don't know how that shakes out when you include the fees they conveniently "forget" to mention in the ads.
Then again, my cellphone costs me about $95 for an entire year! Just a pay-as-you-go flip phone. Very little usage.
"Landline" is VOIP from my internet provider, it's less than $20/mo. I have zero interest in trying to use a cellphone for internet access.

Cell phone internet access is nearly essential for me. Maps, navigation, business phone numbers, etc… are there at the touch of my finger. There’s no such thing as phone books anymore so online lookup is the only option.

I use it to stream the radio. Right now my company laptop is hooked up to it as I am parked in the woods and needed to access the office server.

Less than $20 for the VOIP allowance, or <$20 for internet?
The latter would be pretty cheap

You must have a reoccurring internet bill, for making these posts?

Food isn't real important if you froze to death.
You won’t be alive to need shelter if you didn’t have food.
You can live without heating in a warm temperate climate….
Homeless people survive…
Can’t live long without food. 🙄

I only have cell phone data plan for on the go use on company provided plan.

No Internet, Cable, Fiber or Sat service at home… just rabbit ears.

Plus password free WiFi is ubiquitous where I work.

Legally Food, Shelter and Clothing are defined as necessities of life…
