Electrician question - Screw-in breakers?

Before rural electrification, it was common for upscale houses to have a water tower, either free standing or designed as a part of the house. A windmill pumped the water, and the first place that got indoor water was the kitchen. You could walk to the outhouse, but hauling the dishes outside didn't accomplish anything.

My house was built in the 1830s, my well is up on the hill across the road from the house (road didn't exist at the time), ~30-35' higher elevation. Enough pressure from gravity to do everything we need, including take a shower, we don't have a pump. I don't think the well goes back that far, but a guess would be it's been there a good 100 years or so. I don't think electricity's been here that long.

All those 100Watt light bulbs are now 12W LED... the light circuit never had it so easy in a hundred years...

And generating facilities. I understand switching to CFL and LED lighting has saved 60,000 megawatts of generating capacity. That's pretty big.

My folks home - built in 1948 - had screw in fuses. Later my dad had breakers installed. I've never seen a screw in breaker before.

I admire just how well built some of the Craftsman from long ago built homes.

My second home in a subdivision built in 1922 has stood the test of time very well and still very popular... new $2,500 and hundred years later $750,000.

I own or manage several in the neighborhood to this day and almost always where problems come up it either botched remodels or hack work or neglect...

My 3 bedroom 1 bath bought from original owner is like stepping back in time and nearly all 1922 and so far not lacking in creature comforts and this is with the original single 30 amp Edison Fuse Main and inside two circuit sub-panel... a 20 for outlets and a 15 for lights.

No problems with the 1922 central gravity furnace, full size washer and dryer, refrigerator, range and microwave... everything that can be gas is such as range, dryer, furnace, hot water, etc...

I do use the mini screw in breakers in the sub-panel after one tenant with three daughters all using blow dryers or curling irons stressed the service and I did not want them switching the 20 for a 30 amp.
