My house was built in the 1830s, my well is up on the hill across the road from the house (road didn't exist at the time), ~30-35' higher elevation. Enough pressure from gravity to do everything we need, including take a shower, we don't have a pump. I don't think the well goes back that far, but a guess would be it's been there a good 100 years or so. I don't think electricity's been here that long.Before rural electrification, it was common for upscale houses to have a water tower, either free standing or designed as a part of the house. A windmill pumped the water, and the first place that got indoor water was the kitchen. You could walk to the outhouse, but hauling the dishes outside didn't accomplish anything.![]()
