Electric switch pto

I have a 5740C, the pto switch will not turn off. The tractor will not start with the pto turned on. Anyone have suggestions?

Replace the switch. Pull the wires off the switch so you can use the machine.

Try a TBN "search" with your Montana Mdl# and see if anyone else has reported simular issues.

My 2007 5740 has a dfferent problem with the PTO switch. It will not activate the Manual mode. It still functions in OFF and continuous though. I suppose I ought to get a switch on hand before I get stranded.

As a second thing to check before replacing the switch, look for wiring damage from rodents or other damage first.

I know that if the pto switch is on, the starter will not turn the motor over to start. That is a safety, that is built into the unit. The pto switch is wired into the clutch pedal switch, which in turn goes to the starter solenoid . As far as the pto not turning off, That is a new one to me. Usually, they won't engage, which is usually a wiring issue. I suppose, a switch could go bad, but haven't seen that to often. Maybe, you'll get lucky with a new switch, but I have my doubts. I'll have to check the wiring diagram, as I have not had many issues, of this kind, locally.
