Edko Walking Tractor

When we bought our house, which was my grandfather's, in the shed there was this Edko walking tractor. The motor would not crank.

I was wondering if it would be worth putting a new motor on it and cleaning and painting it. I have the old motor but I think it would be a waste to rebuild it. It had a 5 h.p., 6:1 reduction motor on it.

I have a small disc and another attachment. The attachments pin to the frame. I also would like to know if it would be able to pull a little cart and seat with me on the seat. I weigh about 260 and am 6' 4" tall. If not no big deal. I like old equipment like this.

I searched for the manufacturer and came up with nothing. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I wil post a few pictures. I think it would be neat to have this running again.

And here is how the attachments attach. One Pin in the front and two to keep the attachmanet straight. For the cart I could remove the two pins in the rear.

I think the two pins are for holding the cultivator attachment straight when 'transporting', but when cultivationg (ground engaged) they are removed to allow some steering ability, to keep on a straight line.
If me, I'd rework the old engine and keep this as original as possible. It has more value as an antique than as a working tool (IMO). It appears to be similar to the Gravely walk-behinds.

I have the exact same tractor i bought the other day for $25.00, hadnt run in years, took the motor apart, cleaned it up with chem-tool put it back together and it runs like a top, the only attachment i have is the harrow plows, i think it would be to your advantage to put a motor on it and run it like it is, it seems to be a good little tractor with many potentials.

That set up looks like an old david bradley walk behind. The attachments for old DB's aren't too different that you couldn't adapt them, and most of the time they go for cheap at auctions. You can do a lot of work with that tractor if you have the mind to!

I'd be inclined to restore the old motor if possible. There is growing collector interest in older machinery, although I don't know where Edco fits in that catagory.

Well finally getting around to working on this old thing. I am looking for a motor for it now. I have tore it down and will blast it and repaint it. Any idea where I could find a good motor at a decent price?

I take it that the old motor ain't fixable? Lots of places to get a new motor, Smallenginewarehouse.com, Tractor Supply Company, Northern Tool, Tulsa Engine Warehouse to name a few.
