Saws are normally setup so you need to add oil every time you fuel up, but you should run out of fuel before you run out of oil -- that is an intentional design. If you run out of oil before you run out of fuel, then I'd be concerned. Modern saws are very stingy with oil and generally you can't get close to that situation even with the oiler cranked up.
Almost every saw I own will leave a small puddle after it's been used and put away. Because of this, I have stored saws on a patch of cardboard for as l can remember.
