Eastern Mountain Lion Declared Extinct

All the mills have re-tooled for small logs. I logged 20 acres in 2013 and we left several big old hooters standing because they would dock us 20% for anything over 26" at the butt. The new automated mills can't handle large logs any more. They don't want them, and often won't take them. Larger members are engineered and laminated.

The local mill still has a circle saw to slab logs and cut a couple boards off the big ones. They’ve got a band mill but it only takes squares somewhere around 14” inch maximum. The super wide boards are no good anyway especially if the center of the tree is in it. Warping is nearly guaranteed. And by no good I mean they need cut in smaller pieces.

Proof;nothing concrete just dozens of sightings by reliable out-doors people;including NYS employees.
We had one across the road from my house;I personally didn't see it,several neighbors did;it had a black radio tracking collar on.Around that same time I had an under-cover(plain wrapper) state car with all kinds of antennas parked just off my yard.
Again;if they don't exist in New York state why are they protected? We don't protect elephants or rhino.
NY won't admit because of liability issues.

I didn't say they weren't there. You said they are releasing them. That's a huge claim with nothing to back it up. If they were releasing cougars someone (actually, most everyone), would know about it.

Cougars in the wild in New York? Not yet, state says Read this crap!Estimated one human life lost per year is acceptable.

You read that incorrectly. It didn't say one human life lost per year. It said one human casualty per year. Only 15 people have been killed by cougars in the U.S. since 1900. More people die from bee stings every 15 weeks in the U.S. than have been killed by cougars in the last 120 years.

Just heard on the radio the other morning that more folks in the US are killed every year by cows than both sharks, alligators plus combined etc...

I researched cats quite a bit a while back I've long been fascinated by Florida Panthers. There is little credible evidence that Panthers, eastern mountain lions and western are different sub species. There has not been any thorough genetic testing.

That said their numbers are horribly low and that is a shame.
