Earthquake!

We get a few around here now and then. I remember a quake when my Wife and I were driving an older full sized bronco and i said dang, i really have to get the stirring fixed it's getting pretty bad! At first i thought the wind had come up and was pushing me around but no wind, wasn't till later i found out it had been a smallish 5. something. My Wife was outside on the hillside when a much larger one hit, she could see a wave of moving trees coming toward her, she held onto a small alder to keep from falling down and the dogs all ran toward her and huddled at her feet. When it quit, the dogs ran into the blackberry bushes and hid. I just had to laugh when she told me of the dogs. I was closer toward the epicenter and i thought something big, had blown up in the harbour.

Whoo Hoo Hoo! I think we just had a couple earth quakes...5:24 and 5:29...rattled the house!

Used to live in in Southern Calif.......5.24 and 5.29 is like having a little gas. Kidding aside......experienced some big earthquakes.....including the Northridge and the Loma Prieta quake in SF when the Bay Bridge fell. Quite a ride!

Hah. 5:24 and 5:29 are the times of the day when they occurred; I think the intensity was in the 3.0 range. Wimps.

We had an earth quake here in the last year or so. I think the epicenter was up Nawth in VA. I was at work looking out a window. The exterior walls in our building are solid glass for the most part from floor to ceiling. I happened to be standing looking out the window when I could have sworn I felt the floor moving which is not possible since I was on the first floor is which is an on grade slab. Feeling the floor move on the 2nd/3rd floor is not unheard of and we can feel/see the ceiling move if someone is on the roof and you are on the top floor but the first floor ain't supposed to move. When the floor moved I heard an odd sound which was not loud nor did it have a direction. A few minutes later people were talking about the floor moving and the noise when we figured out we had a earthquake.

Not real fun and the earth quake was not very big at all down here.

Later,
Dan

You really haven't lived till you experience a quake above 7.5. I was in LA Basin area when the big one hit(1990?)collapsed all the overhead freeways. It was pretty shaky. We had several aftershocks to that one that were 5.0 or better. This went on for weeks.

The Sierra Madre (LA) earthquake was ONLY a 5.8. We use those to stir our coffee out here in the desert!

The 2 largest ones near me were the Landers earthquake a 7.3 and Hector Mine a 7.1. Yes, that will get your attention.

If they are drilling for gas, get used to it!

I find it hard to believe that injection of water into the upper crust (15000 or so feet deep) or drilling into natural gas repositories less than 20K deep have anything to do with setting off earthquakes most of which occur 20-50 MILES deep. There are lots of political interest groups that want to blame someone for anything that happens and the news folks jump on the band wagon.

Global Warming is another item that garnered many millions $$$ for Al Gore and party and has been pretty much de-bunked also with most scientist now saying that it is a natural trend that happens every few centuries and there isn't much we can do to counteract mother nature.

I've heard the quakes they get back east are worse then the ones we get out here in the west. Can't remember if it was the direction of the waves or how fast they moved, something to do about the type of bed rock.
