Boy, this is a good example of the problem with this website ... you're always finding new things to build that you never even thought of, or even realized you had a need for!

That is just sooo awesome !! it looks like that little tractor buries it deep into the ground, but i assume the pan sides arent that high after all so it looks like its going deeper than it is... ;)

I just have too many ongoing projects, i dont even dare to write the scraper on my wish list because i have a feeling that if i keep adding, it has to wait untill i retire.. :p

Kansas Kid, Were are you from. That one looks very close to my DB-6 from Hoelscher Commercial Products - DB Scraper
It would be fun to set them side byb side compareision, I could really use the front part to keep lose dirt in there while hauling it.

The little scrapers are really underrated. There is nothing you can hitch/attach to a wheeled tractor that will move more dirt as quickly as a dirt-pan.

I've used them to clean out tanks ("ponds" to the Easterners;) with great results. They can dig in a very controlled manner.......long and shallow or short and deep.....and do so with a good degree of precision. Honestly, I prefer to use them for serious earth-moving against a dozer because the amount of dirt moved and the cycle time in each 'pass' is generally better.

Any new info regarding plans availibility???? Even sketches with critical dimensions would be worth $.MikeD74T

My first job with mine was to build my lagon. It took 1/2 day for the dirt work. This type of job helps off set the cost at least for me. The one I have has a frost bit (that is what they call it) This does help for penatating hard ground and vegitation.

On a scale of 1-10 this gets a 9.5. The last 0.5 will be determined by the color itis painted. Just Kidding!!

Really nice workmanship. Within 5 minutes, I decided that I need to build my own. Can you post some more construction details and pictures?

Besides using this as a pan scraper, I also have in mind using this with my mini excavator for transporting material. I am also thinking that if a small unit works well, about 4 feet wide, I may build a second unit say around 5-6 feet for a larger tractor!!

Here is a link to Soil-Mover. I have the RO series 1-1/2 yard (See Pg 3) that I've had for about 7 years. I used it to raise a roadway back then but haven't gotten that much use out of it since. You never know though, might come in handy some time.

Oops, forgot the link the first time.

This is a earth mover that my neighbor built and I thought someone might be interested in seeing. The "tub", he thinks, is about 1 cubic yard. I asked him if he had enough tractor and he said that it would dig and overfill the tub without stopping the tractor. The man has talent.
You can see all the picture I took at this website: http://public.fotki.com/JerryD/earth_mover/

I'll TRY to attach a couple.

Awsome machine....wish I had one...I think I would build a **** if I had one.

What kind of price quote did they have on the Hoelscher? I can't seem to find any dealers that have them in stock. Went to the Hoelscher website to look up dealers, but none of the ones shown close by stock the units.

A local Indy dealer called up the factory and quoted me $4800 for the DB-4 and something in the mid $5K range for the DB-5.

I keep thinking that I could buy a real nice Miller Mig welder, plasma cutter, spray guns, raw steel and still have some $$$$ left over if I build it myself. I was thinking others would feel the same way and that is why I provided some of the detailed pics.

The unit shown looked to be top notch in every respect and I commend the company for their products .... Having said that, half the fun is building one!

I got a quote of $6570 on a new DB-6 yesterday and he said he would take $250 off to help defray my fuel cost to come and get it, approx 10 hrs one way!! Also had a used 6 without the apron for $4500.

I have been thinking of building one myself also, since I already have a Miller 210 mig, cutting torch, etc. , what I am short on is time.

Your right about never having enough time, but thats what we bought tools for in the first place. I have often wondered where the break even point would be if I never bought a single tool and simply had someone do everything for me. It is a tough call if you ever add up ever last dollar you spent on some type of tool. It would probably have cost more to have someone do everything, but what is our time worth ....

Oh well, I cannot worry about such conceptual issues, I am too busy shopping for more tools!
