Couple more from today. On the road to pick up a load of stone.

I saw my boys from East Penn Railroad working on the tracks.

Back to the site to dump another load

Hoofed it back to the farm to get the tractor down this old tractor path.

Here’s the old railroad tracks still slightly above ground from a bygone era when we used to manufacture things in PA.

Could not find a recent picture. I sometimes need a small load of gravel to spot repair gravel diveway.

View attachment 872952

Trailer weight is ~1500 lbs. Max is 9990 lbs.
My truck weight is ~5100lbs. and GCWR is 14900lbs. I try to keep it around 12000 lb because I have a serious hill to climb from the gravel pit back to my property.
If that trailer only weighs 1,500 lbs. I wouldn't want that load in it.

When I (mistakenly) had about that much gravel in mine I thankfully didn't use my 2500 but the Peterbilt. Also because there's a somewhat steep climb leaving the pit, and it's paved so I couldn't use 4WD low range.

As it (predictably) turned out, the trailer wouldn't dump, or even lift the bed at all. Possibly because the trailer itself weighs about three times as much.

The truck turned out great HD! Are you happy with it?
4wd is such a comfort to have, it's not like your going "wheeling" with it, but backing up just a foot more than you should have can make for an hour or more chore especially by yourself. 👍

Thanks! Still adding to it. Need a tarp and a few more repairs

I love it. The HT570 pulls really hard. 9.3L and 1100 torque is so nice to drive. Even with 10 tons, you’d think it was empty.

It really is. Even the push button locking rear is great. Then slap it into 4WD and its pretty cool on muddy fields.

Amazing how red that Arizona soil/rock is.
I love it there, but I would miss my PA/DE Piedmont hills & farm lands

And that's just it. Even with my Ram with 4WD, it couldn't pull a loaded dump trailer with a 20,000# load capacity into the places where I go with a 4WD dump truck.

Thanks. I actually may buy a dump trailer in the near future for easy access jobs, but this dump truck is doing a good job so far

I agree, 40' of dump trailer/truck don't fit in a lot of instances, yet since I take the job, I have to make it fit. Hard on trucks and trailers.

I would love to have a 6 wheel dump truck but don't want the regulations that go with it.

I can't even haul with a 1 ton SRW. I haul under Arizona's exempt laws. It has to be a 3/4 ton or less to qualify.

A dump trailer also requires two operators, one to drive the truck and one to operate the tailgate/dump.

Once the tires on the trailer get into even just 2” of soft ground, the rolling resistance gets really hard for the truck to get through. I know this from hauling hay off of soft fields.

A trailer manufacturer who offered a "floater" tire package would do well. It would cost some width in a deck between the wheels arrangement but shouldn't be a problem with everything above the tires. Most of the trailer tires are what could be called "pizza cutters"!

It is definitely a nice truck. I would love to have a truck just like it, but am in the same boat as the others...can't justify it.
