When you say 3/4 minus , Is this crushed shale or is it the 3/4 minus that many of the rock pits sale around here ?

It is crushed. All of it is angular rock, no round pieces.

Have looked at having it sprayed , which you can also buy the oil yourself and do , but once sprayed , you cannot use driveway for something like a minimum of 24 hours . Personally I have no plans on walking up my driveway any time soon .

The driveway was pretty dusty here last summer, but we had a lot of traffic from the construction.

Because my driveway has a circular section, it is possible to try out the oil and just limit traffic to the other part of the circle for a few days.

We only have one family using the driveway, so if I wanted to do the rest we could get everything ready and just go on a weekend trip somewhere. Count that as part of the cost of the driveway sealing.

It looks like for the next year I will just be using the driveway "as is" and doing spot repairs with the tractor. From my experience so far, the driveway is pretty well compacted both from traffic and the contractor using a roller on it at the start.

What I have seen is that spot repairs do not hold up as well as the driveway, and if I fill a developing pothole, it will start to wear out again in a week or two. I have a plate compactor from HF, and I can re-compact small areas, I will do this over the summer of '08 and see how it goes.

Possibly I can control the dust by just sprinkling with water every few days. If this works, it could be a really good solution. I could set up sprinklers and a timer to spray at night from the well. Cost to try this on a short section is zero.

Pave the road and leave 1' foot of gravel on both side for those few times you need traction. Or pave the road and use sand and salt mixture for traction.

Wish I could pave my 500' drive way.
