Driveway question

Just wondering -- has anyone here ever added a "wing" or extension to the end of a back blade to make it work a little like a box blade so far as keeping material in the driveway? I think I have a pretty good way to do this with deck plate, a little welding, and some bolts. I'm just wondering if anyone ever tried it and found some major problem with the idea. I'd set the wing to run parallel to the tractor when the blade is angled.

Yeah, Im sure it could be done. But once its welded up then you wouldnt be able to move material off to the side as originally intended /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

My vote would go to saving your money and eventually getting a boxblade /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Most all the "name brand" blades offer those as options. I borrowed a Woods blade from a buddy a few years back that had them. Worked great. The Woods blade I currently own has bolt holes on the outer ends of the blade for just what you're planning.

Yeah, mine has 9/16 inch holes, but they're intended for being able to reverse the blade or change the cutting edge. I'll leave the replaceable edge on the bottom and reinforce the top with some extra deck plate. It will definitely be removable. If it works good, I might make a second one for the other side and have a poor man's box scraper. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Of course, then I'd need to redo the mount system, which is someone's crooked homemade item. Still, having paid the grand sum of $45 for the 6' blade at auction, I can afford to modify it some.
