ArlyA--could you give an update on your dogs? Are they inside dogs? How many do you have? Breeds? How did each one wind up with you?
We don't have anything very exciting to report. Wally is a Kelpie/Blue healer mix we picked up as a puppy when Gromit was becoming elderly. After she passed, my spouse spied a border collie puppy who had been brought to a shelter in northern WI. Seems the owner and brought all there animals to that shelter. This is at puppy Wally in the top photo. I can't locate a shelter photo right now.

Mr Massey, never say never. I thought I'd never have another dog. Didn't want one.
Last dog I had, came down with age related health issues. Sad time in my life as she
was a great dog.
Almost 15 years later.....we got another dog. Just happened. Another GSD and she has
been a blessing to my wife and me. Now? We sit out and watch the stars with the dog.
In addition to the farm work I do, the dog requires and gets exercise, both from me and for me (lol).
Crazy excited whenever we come home. Always a perfect greeting. Sorry I/we waited so
long to feel that 100% unconditional puppy love.
Take time to let your heart heal, I get that. But don't wait 15 years like I did. That's
time lost I can't get back.
I've reached an age where it's highly probable the dog will outlive me.
For me pets have always been forever homed and I wouldn't want to think they might not end up in a good home.

Find a person willing to receive it and a backup or two just in case. Put the dog and payment for its care in the will or trust. Anything serious gets decided by two vets.

I'm in my 70's. Very possible this dog might/could or will outlive me. Not really planning on passing
away anytime soon, but..... if it does happen, my wife will have the dog....something happens to her? My
kids will take care of the dog. I still encourage you to enrich the years you feel you might have left
by finding that pup that needs you.

The black shepherd is growing fast! A month makes a big difference. Our pup is doing the same thing.
Crazy growth rate that 1st year.
When we got our German shepherd, she was the size of my hand.

I took a weekly picture every Friday night with her laying in my recliner to document her growth until she was full grown.

It's amazing when they are really little, how much they grow in just a week.
