Yesterday the temps were near normal and a good day to be outside, for a change. I'll just crash over here. I've had a full day of patrolling the yard, keep squirrels chased off, keeping check on my people and what they are doing (is it something they need me to supervise). It's just hard work, somebody has to do it and I'll be ready to do it again... tomorrow. :ROFLMAO:

Flying dogs! The jump seems like more fun for her than the fetch and retrieve.

Dang nice looking trio! What are their personality traits, training acceptance etc ?
Wondering if I might expand into another breed.
These pups came from a working farm with AKC papers. Full Anatolian, one Volla is "timid" and very submissive to people, but will take on anything, the other Rheda is muscle, all muscle. Easy going but thick headed, not all that easy to train, but better than Great Pyr so far. I have had 2 Great Pyr that I thought I would have to kill to get them to work with me not against.
Beyla is GP/ Anatolian, Modi is GP/ Karakachan ( one of the best dogs I have ever owned). Both of them are well behaved and only scary when asked to be. Beyla decided she is my wife's personal guarding. If she can she will be in front and nothing is allowed near unless my wife tells her it is ok. Nice feature.
The 2 pups challenge everything but I can call off mostly at this point. Come here is still optional but they herd easy with an ATV. They know what I want but not ready to do that on command. Rheda is leash trained, Volla her sister sees the leash, runs inside and dragging while she screams is as far as we get. Now at 80 lbs she is hard to drag.

The will continue to grow until 24-36 months and I'd stay 120-140. Beyla is a big girl at 150# and 32" at the shoulder these 2 might be close to that.

I also have 2 mostly Great Pyr, one Honey aging out with Modi and only about 85 lbs, then there is Jethro who has taken 4 years to even begin to act like an adult (mostly). He is white version of Mody, same sizes and look, just white and not so bright. He is really nice but everything with him is a challenge to get cooperation. Currently he will correct one pup if alone but is afraid of the pair together.

These guys can run in excess of 40 mph when in shape and can get a ways in short order, coyotes can not out run them, but mostly yotes learn the lesson and steer clear.
I'm hooked on the LGD breeds and will always have some around, not like most dogs but they bond well.

E-1, Thanks for the good info. We have friends that have 2 Great Pyr. The dogs are fine, mostly into
getting their heads scratched after meeting you. Otherwise, normal sit, stay etc commands are
pretty much ignored. They do their jobs, but if you're looking for a cuddly puppy to play with
it isn't them. I like the idea of the Anatolian, but at my age not sure if I have the time or patience
needed to be a good fit. Kind of wish I had known more about them earlier in my life.
Sounds like you've got a good grip on the situation. Keep us updated on them as they mature.

Don't get me wrong most Great Pyrs are lovable and get along with most other critters. Will be prefect little angels around others because the will get attention and treats. They will also disappear and go on a 20 mile adventure when they are young. Protect the neighbors goats from their owner, eat all dog food outside in a 4 sq mile area, actually had one collecting dog dishes and 25 lbs bag of food at the far end, all from one lady. Keep the cows away from their calves be safe. Steal kittens from their mother to keep and cuddle. Steal coyote (or other) kills and bring home the left overs a few days later.

Most stop their wandering after they grow up between 2-4 or at least become predictable. Honey is the sweetest lovable white fluff ball with everything she knows and Cujo with everything she does not. Must be introduced to all newcomers or trouble ensue, Jethro likes everyone and will go on long walks with anyone that pays attention to him.
The two I keep loose are alert, not trusting but not aggressive beyond alert barks, unless told too be otherwise. Modi is no longer a threat you can out walk him now, bad hips and hanging one.
Now the new pups jobs will be a bit more aggressive since we no longer have paying customers, so far they are a lot less interesting in roaming the woods, learning to respect fences, but my grandkid's beagle/border gets them in trouble (working on taming him down, really high energy) chasing stuff they should not. They don't stop instantly like he does. Currently Volla has to chase every duck, goose, cat first thing in the morning, then is fine all day long, Rheda only gets involved if it sounds like a fight. She wants to stop all fights, cat fights, duck fights, cat or dog with something fight, she will get in the middle of it and try end it.
To me the journey with each and every dog is enjoyable even when they destroy a perfectly good day.

Little Vegas is getting some exposure, although I won't make her a hunting dog... That's Laika job

It's hard to do some work with a new puppy... it take lots of vigilance and patience but I do my best.... Better to get them used to it early

I get that. From about 3 months to just turned 6 months....a completely different dog!
Still a pup, but the growth, musculature, full set of canine teeth and instinct traits start
showing up. I'm loving this dog.

When I was a little kid we had our dog blessed. There is a Patron Saint of dogs but we got the Patron Saint of animals and pets and that's all we knew. St Francis of Assisi.

I can't remember if we went to the priest or the priest came to us. Whatever it was, it was a big event and I think a luncheon followed. St Francis was a big deal and for years we had a St Francis medal in the car protecting our dog. I might get another one and get my dog blessed same time. Can't hurt.
