Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

Yeah I had a 83 Ranger w/diesel & I thought I had a rareity! Then one day at diesel pumps there she sets ! 84 Escort w/diesel! I wish I had both right now! neat little vehicles! Was trying to do a relative a favor & gave him the truck where his wife wouldn't have to get up at 4 AM & drive him to work & then come home & get ready to go to work! Same thing in afternoon! Bout 3 wks later he sold it cause so many people wanted something rare! Oh well, I reckon we could see if we could find a VW rabbit pickup diesel! U talk about winning a ugly truck contest!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There's a 1987 Escort diesel on Ebay right now.
1987 Escort GL diesel
I had a 1987 Ford Tempo diesel with the same engine-- great little car.

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

A local farmer and co-worker borrowed my truck and trailer to pick up a grain head, he left me his daily driver diesel tempo or topaz to use, he loved it especially before they dyed the farm diesel /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

Steve, that sounds like it should be a dandy for anyone wanting a smaller truck. Of course, 20 years ago we had an Isuzu diesel sedan (I-Mark), my Dad had one of the little Chevy trucks with the Isuzu diesel, and I had a number of friends and acquaintances who had Isuzu diesels, and never knew anyone with a complaint about those engines.

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

the slip in plastic liners do not work well here in north Texas either.. for the same reasons that you spoke about.
I panted on a "rino" type liner in my pickup.. Its doing a good job so far.. My pickup is a work truck,,, not too worried about scratches and minor dings..
Some day when I have as much money as many of my coustomers, I'll get a genuine sprayed in liner with a big transmission and real trailer brake system..

"a 4 and a quarter Cat"

H-EEE-RRR-EE KITY, KITY, KITY 3406A--That was a hoss in its day

Do you remember the 2 stroke slobering Detroits that if you stalled the engine just right, they would run backwards?

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

Yep, I drove Euclids with 6-71s in an iron mine in Nevada. If you backed up on the berm that formed on the edge of the waste pile from dumping and didn't kick the clutch in at the right time it would die and re-start, driving the truck forward in reverse. It was kind of freaky the first couple of times I did it.

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

One other thing I've seen happen with a slide- in bedliner I haven't seen happen with a spray- in...The bed liner sucked out of the bed while going down the road. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One other thing I've seen happen with a slide- in bedliner

We use the bedliner that goes under the rail. On the Fords it is also held in with the tie downs in the corners of the box. I clean under mine once every couple of months and have never noticed any rusting issues in years of use. The paint is always about like brand new as well. If you've seen how they put the spray-in liners on they basically scrape all the paint away down to metal. I've also had guys complain that little pieces tore off and they got rust spots as well. Not sure what's best. LIners work for us and I spray-in works for you.

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

When they did the LineX in my truck they just scuffed the paint, they didn't go all the way down. I've knocked some chunks out of mine, the inside top edge of my tailgate has rash all over it, but it's not showing any rust as of yet. I really had second thoughts on the LineX, that is a large *permanent* change in a $30,000 truck, especially when you aren't used to paying much over $1,500 for your trucks! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I have been happy with it and would do it again. The biggest fear in having it done is realizing that the guy doing it is working for 8 bucks an hour, stands a really good chance of being half drunk or stoned and might have an attitude problem with people that can afford $30,000 to $50,000 trucks. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif On pulling the slide- in and cleaning under it, I did that a couple of times to the S-10 I had before this Dodge, I figured a coat of wax on the bed now and then would keep the liner sliding on the paint rather than wearing it. It only took a couple of times for me to figure that what I couldn't see wasn't hurting me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

The key to spray on liners (I have Line-X) is the application. I took mine to a place where the owner of the shop does all the work. He also does the spray-on liners for the dealers in the area. I looked at some of the trucks in the lot he had just done and was very pleased. He did a terrific job -- perfect in fact. A really amazing product. However, if you have bad surface prep or poor application, it can be a disaster -- just like paint.

A side note, if you want a good deal on a drop-in liner, go to a spray-on place and ask to look at their pile. They usually have a bunch in the back they've removed.

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

Now that salt season is here in Mi, I think the perfect truck would have all stainless steel body panels. Where is DeLorean when you need him?

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

I still want to know what a diesal is a 5K add on. Surly they can't cost that much more to make

 / Doesn't exist (My perfect truck) #56
Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

Yes it does cost that much more. Price a V-10 crate engine and a 6.0 litre powerstroke from Ford or the 8.1 crate from Chevy against the duramax crate. Price a rebuild kit for each one. Diesel engines are alot more expensive.

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

From what I know the reason for the extra cost is that all the parts must be made heaver. starters all the way down block to handel the extra compression. plus theres the turbo and outher stuff you don't find on an average car. least that what I always thought was the reason for the price diff.

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

yea but 5k more for a simpler motor? Seems to me they do it because they know they can get it. a v10 cost what 800 more than a v8 but it you want a diesal you better dig deep in your pocket. Oh well that life I just had to vent.

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

I certainly wouldn't call the new diesels a simpler motor Chuck.
