Do you still find lawn tractor useful after upgrading to "real" tractor?

Re: Do you still find lawn tractor useful after upgrading to "real" tractor?

Those mowing decks were almost impossible to maintain/blades sharpen, etc.

I agree. Take it off and throw it away and use the tractor to pull a cart around or like a Gator if you don't have any hills. Have hills? Junk it. Too dangerous.

Re: Do you still find lawn tractor useful after upgrading to "real" tractor?

Never had a lawn tractor, but as you stated medical reasons keep you from mowing and moved to where you don't need to do that, sell it and use the money towards and attachment you can use on your tractor or save it for a bigger/newer/different tractor.

I know the reason I went with a cab on my tractor was to help with those nasty allergies. Yet, since you have moved to where that isn't an issue, you can't use that for a reason to buy a cab, but maybe you can use the reason of the heat and needing the AC to keep you safe? :D

I'm not sure a cab with AC is even available for any of the Ford N series tractors  Honestly though, the heat doesn't bother me like 99% of the whiny little buggers here...like seriously, why would people who hate the heat move to one of the hottest areas of the country??? I actually get a bit more miserable in the summer, but not because of the heat - I have no problem being outside all day long in 115* heat, and actually prefer doing most things without AC to avoid the massive temperature shock from going outside to inside and back. That's my beef with the summer - going from 115* outside to inside stores and other businesses with AC running at 75*F, then back again. It's would be like other people being in shorts outside walking straight in to the walk in freezer then back a few times a day.

Off topic: for your wicked allergies.
Trend Airshield Pro | Air Circulating Face Shield | U*AIR/PRO
I have one of these for wood working(sanding), also for cutting cement bricks/pavers with angle grinder and diamond blade. Sometimes forget I'm wearing it,(face mask isn't all scratched up), cutting cement and when I can no longer hold my breath, I remember.

I've actually thought about something like that for some things as well, as I also have serious comfort issues with typical respirators, and just flat can't do the typical cheap paper masks as the quick spike in moisture in those things makes it difficult to breathe. The larger cartridge style with the air valves are tolerable for a while, but I still don't ever look forward to any painting jobs, lol.

With 3 plus acres to mow and no mower on tractor, riding mower gets more hours than the SCUT...

Re: Do you still find lawn tractor useful after upgrading to "real" tractor?

Lawn tractor is for mowing the lawn, tractor is for everything else. Can't imagine what my place would look like if the tractor was what I mowed the lawn with, I can do a tremendous amount of damage in a very short amount of time to structures, trees and other stuff with the tractor.
Different tools, different purposes.

Ditto.... I have created more damage and clean up work with tractor then riding mower...

Re: Do you still find lawn tractor useful after upgrading to "real" tractor?

If it's grass or weeds on the ground, I'm removing it, not cutting it. One of the big reasons why I moved to the southwest desert :D Also one of the big reasons why I upgraded to that Ford and a landscape rake - the ability to pull something that's big enough to be beneficial in _removing_ the grass and weeds growing on the property as opposed to just cutting and/or killing it.

Allergies or not, I can't imagine having a house on a piece of land with nothing green or growing at all.

I would say to make the mower a tug to haul water to plants, but .....

I can't imagine living somewhere where the only thing that's green or growing is grass and weeds....sounds incredibly boring! On the other hand, go find a way to experience anaphylactic shock....then imagine wondering if merely a neighbor mowing his lawn will kick it off again, if you're lucky enough to survive the experience. I'll bet you'll also find a lush green lawn to be far less important in life afterwards as well as finding living near other lawns less than desirable too.

Plenty of things that grow in the desert, that don't involve mowing, and not just green stuff either!

We even get some snow too!

Re: Do you still find lawn tractor useful after upgrading to "real" tractor?

I now have 5 tractors and a ZTR. I still keep and use the JD lawn tractor for pulling a seed/fertilizer spreader (slow pace is perfect) and the Cyclone Rake. I was going to ditch it but it's not worth much and it's better than anything else I own for those two tasks.

Re: Do you still find lawn tractor useful after upgrading to "real" tractor?

I use my Deere X748 with a 60” deck to mow. All of my other tractors have a finish mower & would be too big anyway. With the Deere I still need to use a 21” Honda for some spots
