I asked the tech if there is a low/high pressure compressor kill switch like i have in my truck, but he didnt know.

Generally, you will find at least one pressure switch (my experience low pressure) and a lot of them have both low and high pressure switches.

I'm not certain why your HVAC guy didn't know, if you have them, you'll find them in the outdoor unit.

Lightening got my frig on Monday.. no problem it’s happened before.. order a new control board and that “should” fix it, just like last time..

Yikes! As it has happened before, have you thought about a whole house surge suppressor?

Lost TV twice at moms to utility power surge…

I had it on a good UPS but the beeping when power was out of spec bothered her… so I took it away.

Buying refrigerant in bulk( 20# cylinders or more) will not be cost effective for a private individual.
IMO it will be much cheaper to pay a full-time HVAC technician. If you ever service someone else's unit without a business license and commercial insurance, you might be sawing off the limb you're on.

I bought a jug of R22 years ago for the one place I own with central A/C… my HVAC retired friend passed away and his sons were having an estate sale and they had it still in the box…
