Do all HD pickups ride rough?

My '97 F350 rides like a sports car... as long as you're on a very smooth road. Corners surprisingly flat, but if you hit a bump mid-corner you'll jump to the side.
Yeah, you feel every bump.
I kinda like it, it's a great workout for the abs. Just have to make sure you don't bite your tongue when you hit a big bump.

All this talk about adding weight for a better ride reminds me of my first impression after building a 1,200-pound counterweight for the back of my tractor. The ride became smoother, and the tractor felt like it was sticking to the ground. HUGE IMPROVEMENT!!!!
Its amazing how a nice chunk of cement makes the tractor ride so much smoother.

Along those same lines... I worked for a well driller and he had two identical 2wd F250's, one red and the other white. The red one was always loaded with tooling, and scaled out right around 10K (well driller's tools are heavy), the white one only had a few McDonald cups in the back. The ride difference was significant. The red one rode like a Cadillac, you never felt any bumps and it went places the unloaded 4wd trucks would get stuck. I had it on the frame rails a few times in deep snow drifts and it would plow right through them. The white one you felt every bump on and it would corkscrew all over the place on ice. The red one went through a set of brakes every other year due to its weight.

I have never driven a unloaded 3/4 or 1 ton that did not ride rough for the reasons others have outlined.

Draft horses don't ride smooth either.

I have adjustable width 1/2 racks on 5.5 ft bed on my 2012 Nissian Titan crew cab that can carry canoe, ladder, or lumber, while still allowing being able move around & to stand up in the bed and load stuff.
Interesting...Photo?

The only 3/4 ton I owned was a ‘72 F250, and it was a bit stiffer compared to my ‘69 F100, but it’s been awhile and trucks have changed just a little bit.

Last deer season my friend drove his recent HD2500 gasser up to my NW Ontario camp. One trail back on was really slimy so the second day we used his truck vs my Tundra to head back because he had more aggressive tires. I thought my 2010 Tundra had a primitive ride, but the HD2500 was far rougher. What I didn’t expect was the deep ruts that thjng produced vs my 6000 lb truck. I have no idea what tires or inflation he had.

He bought that truck to tow a 30 foot camping trailer and I can see why, but it’s not much of an every day driver. Not sure he even towed his trailer once last year, instead towing his little JD, ATV etc around. He does like it, though.

Oh when you need it, you really need it...But when you don't need it, they punish your kidneys for being so bold as to drive empty

My 2015 F250 rides like a log wagon. I originally thought I would tow a larger camper in retirement but downsized so when I wear this one out I will go back to an F150. I do like that 6.2L engine. Way more spunk when towing out west in the mountains.

My 2018 Ram HD 2500 Power Wagon rides just fine. It's been so very long since I've owned a car - forgotten how they ride.

For sure - cars coming down my mile long gravel driveway do not like the one mud hole when it's active. The Power Wagon just glides thru the mud hole.
