DK40
Hi, I'm new to this site, I have a dk40 and the front end ring gear has blown apart for the 2nd time, and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? the dealer tells me I am the only one they know of to have this problem. the last time I was picking up a load and the front tires were off the ground up in the air when I heard the gear blow apart. the wheels were no where near the ground in the front when it happened. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Why would the front tires be off the ground when picking up a load? Never heard of any problems with the front diff. Why would you have the front end up in the air while using the loader? I don't understand what exactly you were doing with the tractor when your problem happened.

I'm sorry to hear you're having a problem. I'm having a bit of a time grasping this though. You say it "blew" apart while up in the air?
I don't quite see how that could even happen, but I'm sure something did.
What were you doing the first time that happened?
I've heard of a couple of problems with a broken gear on a DK55, and some of the first DK45s had some problems but they changed the gears on those a while back. I haven't heard anything about any on the DK40s.
I'd kinda like to know why the front wheels were in the air though. If you're doing that a lot, and letting them come down hard, you've been stressing everything in the front end.
Most Kioti users that I know work their tractors pretty hard, but there are limits as to how much and what type of abuse any tractor can take!
You said that the last time you were picking up a load... Do you mean with the loader, or a backhoe?

He could be picking up something heavy with the 3 point letting the front end come up, and then slam down. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I was driving forward, cutting into a bank with the front loader, cutting up a banked hill from a flat surface. the front tires were about a foot off the ground when it broke. when I heard it pop I backed down, dropped the load and checked the shear pin. which is supposed to break before the ring gear. it was broken. but, I brought it into the dealer because I didn't like the sound in the front end. the shear pin should have left everything free in the front end, but I could hear something binding and catching as I rolled forward. I agree if I had slammed it to the ground at full power it would have done some damage. but that was not the case. but even if it was, again that is what a shear pin is supposed to do take the shear force before damage occurs. I think I was cutting into a hill the first time this happened too. My father-in Law has a 30hp kubota and does the same work around his place and says it should'nt be a problem. he was impressed by the kioti's power though.

Is it possible that the bucket is moving rearward and contacting the front tires? That could force them to both turn against the drivetrain rotation without the benefit of differential action.......just throwing it out there,Mike.

the loader was up above the tires.

Okay, I see now how it was. It's not unusual for me to get a little lift on my front end when digging in some good piles also and usually doesn't slam down hard when I'm doing it right.
I can't imagine why you had all the extra involvement in the front end though. Is there nothing obvious to see that would indicate how the problem happened? Stupid question I guess, since you posted you don't know, sorry.

I'll get that movement in the front if the loader is in the float mode. If the loader is just set to one depth the loader will just cut straight into the pile. Maybe he is in float?

I wonder if there is a problem with one of you universals or wheel gear boxes that causes something to bind up when the front axle is hanging free to one side or the other.
