DK 55 Shuttle

Well I guess I'm gonna have to try it, but I do not think it will work. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I bet most of the owners on here stop before changing directions.

I think I nearly always stop before changing directions.
Habit I guess.
I have changed direction a few times without a complete stop and have never had any grinding.

I do know it shouldn't be doing that !!

I guess I am in the habit of not stopping because I have a hydro also. Really I think if I did not have to stop so long I would not have noticed it either. But shuttle makes the FEL work so much better. I paid for it I expect it to work.! And yes from a standstill is definitely a problem. It is irritating to hear that grind on a brand new Tractor. Sends shivers up my spine.

There should NOT be any grinding when shifting the shuttle.
I did not believe that it was possible to shift the shuttle while still moving untill I read these comments, and went out on the yard and tried it for myself. We have been selling Kioti since the mid 90's, and have always encouraged our coustomers to come to a stop before shifting.
I would still recomend coming to a stop to shift. Just as I do all my pickups. (tore out a few transmissions and rear ends when I was a kid) It just has to be easier on everything in the power train.
Again, there should NOT be any grinding. We have had to redoo 3 shuttles in the past 10 years. They were not shimed correctly from the factory. I was under the impression that this problem was taken care of for I havent seen or heard of it in almost 2 years.

Hope you get fixed up John, because something is not right.
I may be in the habit of coming to a stop , but its barely, there is no waiting.
Occasionally I change direction while still moving slightly with no grinding.

No doubt about that !!!

RedDog - Your DK65 is actually a Full Synchromesh Transmission. It should shift even smoother than the other DK line. I know that in all our DK65's we have sold they do shuttle smoother than the other DK's. All other DK's are Synchronized Shuttle and Transmission.

On the DK35-DK55 tractors I believe when using the shuttle you need to use it in one complete motion. (Example: don't stop half way or if you only get it part way in F or R then go back to N and back to F or R it will tend to grind, make sure it goes in completely) I have noticed if i do this then i tend to have to re-clutch then put it in gear. I don't know why this is; I just figure it was normal as i have noticed it in other brands as well.

Thanks Vince. I am confidence in my dealer to get it done.

it works... what can I say? JUST MY OPINION... I still dont like the idea of throwing anything into forward while still traviling in reverse, or vise-versa. That goes for cars, pickups, trucks, dozers, backhoes, tractors or anything that moves.
I used to do some cotton farming in west texas. I had 2 John Deere 8100's and 3 john deere 4440's. The 8100's had the capability to go from forward to reverse in any geer at any speed. WOW! THE MACHINE WOULD DO IT. I instructed my drivers to use a little commen sence about changing direction. I had to fire 1 of my drivers for doing this at high speeds. About a year later I was in the dealer's shop, and noticed my neighbor had his tractor in there and it was scattered over about 500 square feet. Come to find out, my ex driver went to work for my neighbor and was doing the "wild thing" just like the salesman showed us and he ripped 5 of the 7 clutch-packs out of the machine. (not covered in the warrenty) Yes I spent a little more time changing directions for several years, and my neighbor spent several thousand dollars and a week in the shop right at planting season. That hurts, That hurts real bad.
My money comes hard, I try to make it last. But again, that is just my opinion.

Well I just went outside and gave it a try on my DK35,it works-no grinding.I just rolled forward pushed the clutch in and pulled the shuttle shift back without hesitation and went into reverse on the move. Thanks for the tip. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

realy and truly, a shuttle, if operated by an OPERATOR, is almost as fast as a hydro, and a lot less expensive.

Very true!!

JSDK55, I want to congratulate you on pointing out how stupid the rest of us (Kioti) owners are. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No problem. But I was starting to wonder if I wasn't the dumb one here. I never thought that bringing up a problem would lead to such a discussion about weather it was real or not. Live and learn on tractorbynet.!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had a similar occurrence of this problem last fall. The growling noise was not very loud, but the transmission would not always engage after changing directions. The Kioti factory tech representative said that it was better to shift the shuttle lever while the tractor was still moving. That way the synchronizers are more apt to align. He suggested shifting into neutral and back to the desired direction, if the transmission would not engage. His suggestion worked and I have not had a problem since. He mentioned that if the shims were incorrectly installed the symptoms would be more severe. The way I try to change directions now is to press in the clutch, shift the shuttle while moving, let the tractor slow down to a creep and slowly let the clutch out. It's pretty easy to gauge how far the tractor will coast and if you need to apply some braking. It seems that the majority of the wear would occur on the clutch plates if you would let it out when the tractor was going too fast.

I was out plowing the snow last night and decided I would give it shot. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I shifted directly from reverse to forward and vice versa without a single problem. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

No grinding whatsoever!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey I am glad it worked for you.! Pretty nice ha. Did the plowing go faster.? Great to find out your tractor works better than you thought. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wouldn't say it went faster, but it was nice to know that it works!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
